@USG, thanks for doing these Colorverse inks!

I like this part of the color spectrum and looking closely, I don't have enough Supernova in my life .  Also, that Strelka looks like you went back and outlined each letter in black.  What a cool effect.

Currently most used pen: Parker 51 Aerometric <F> -- filled with Waterman Mysterious Blue ink.

Hi  MCL

If you look closely, Warped Passages has a similar effect . 👍😀

For this 'halo' test, did you try Noodler's Ottoman Rose, Kaweco Caramel Brown or Lamy Petrol? I do not have any papers you do but from time to time I noticed similar effects on my cheapo sheets with these inks. Lamy Petrol (they returned this ink in 2025) is a sheening ink so might give some effects (almost none for me, but in reviews I saw nice stuff about it). Ottoman Rose gives blackish outlines when in certain nibs (F/EF, gold and flex seems to work). Kaweco's Caramel is a boring brown but in broader nibs it gives some tarnished outlines, happened with a dip pen mostly. Also noticed that most of copper-tinted inks have a similar effect, not another colour - just the shading resembles this 'halo' thing, encountered mostly with De Atramentis Copper Brown and something I mixed myself from two bottles of Karkos.

This is a horrible photo of the effect that  I call "Outlining", which is different from what is commonly referred to as "Haloing".

"Haloing", to my understanding , is a darker continuous line around the letters.  "Outlining" is a brighter glowing effect around the letters.

The top yellow example is yellow Sailor Yamabuki.  The blue example is Sailor Konagi, which has a unique pink glow around it.  The bottom example is orange Sailor Kin-Mokusei.  The effect can be seen on Cosmo Snow, Iroful, and sometimes on Tomoe River-S paper.  It's rarely seen on other paper.

IMG_4030900b.jpg.c119c22a5009391f5e30f8ffba68bfee.jpg

(Since "Haloing" was already in use I had to find something else to call this effect, but it seems that the brighter glowing effect should be called "Haloing" and the darker line around letters should be called "Outlining".)

That said, thank you for the ink suggestions, I'll add them in my cue. 😀

I actually never encountered these terms before your topic so many thanks for the info!

Also Pilot's Syun-Gyo can possibly give something close as it appears to give sheen even on the cheapo paper I use. I'll try to post my review on it asap.

Here’s the outline effect on Iroful, specifically with the Parker Quink Blue made in India by Luxor (It’s a more saturated blue than the ink made in France).

"Halo" has been around a long time.  "Outline" a term I use to describe the effect under discussion.

Today's pen is a repeat:

This is a fantastic $25 pen.  It has a highly polished turned acrylic finish with a smooth, well proportioned #8 nib.  It posts deeply and securely.  You know I like the X159s and the 630s, this one has a longer section and feels better in the hand.  It's probably a copy of something famous but I don't know what.  It's my new favorite pen.

Oh, I want KSLV-II!

I finally managed to photograph a new paper that I have been using, Etranger di Costarica Blanc de Blancs, medium thick, 80 gsm. It’s Japanese, despite the name. It’s a nice paper, only Colorverse Quasar and BPC Tesla Coil showed through a bit, but no feathering.

Nice job PGC 😀👍  New paper and all those pens and inks... Wow, you're like the Flash !!!  I can't begin to keep up with you.  😁  Do you see any nuances on this paper?

I have Muji paper in one cart and b7 in another, but that's as far as DizzyMe has gotten.  🙃

Meanwhile, back on the ranch, I'm trying to use up a Sakae TP Iroful notebook, which is what I'm writing in today....

I can be a little ridiculous, and my local pen show is a week away. This is nice paper. Sheen and shimmer show up really well, but I haven’t yet tried any known outline inks. It lives up to its name in how white it is, so I’m hopeful. What b7 are you getting? I have tried the Tranext and Bulky, but it was in a Yamamoto sampler some time ago- can’t remember which one I liked better.

9 Pens 9 Inks (with not much variation in color and not much in the nuance department, I expected more from Iroful paper)

The Jetpens b7 paper is close to Iroful in hue.  Maybe the b7 is brighter?

To my eye, something like Tomoe River 68gsm and Cosmo Air Snow are quite white, whereas b7 and Iroful are both more of a cream color.

Currently most used pen: Parker 51 Aerometric <F> -- filled with Waterman Mysterious Blue ink.
