Octopus Fluids Moosgrün (moss green)

I put this ink into my Moonman S3 with its Delike Bent nib (which I'd still classify as fine):

My attempt at showing the sheen:

And compared to some other greens (almost all from a dip pen. I took this pic for my lightfastness test):

Thanks for ink review and comparisons

It's funny when you see Diplomat bottles from cultpens, it's actually written on it:

DP00014-MG_Diplomat-Fountain-Pen-Ink-30m

however, cultpens also sells also Octopusfluids Moss green:

OC00001_Octopus-Fountain-Pen-Ink-30ml_DT

The difference is the price. Diplomat is twice the price in UK.

Here is the bottle from Vanness:

Octopus-Ink-30-ml-Mosgrun_700x.png?v=167

The prices in the US are similar, though Diplomat is on sale, right now.

And just add to the confusion, the regular line up from Diplomat have different bottles:

Thank you for the review, @Nellie! I have yet to try this ink. If they're the same as Diplomat, I may have a sample (can't remember which colors I got).  Thanks for the extra details, @yazeh. :)

Those are some pretty colors…and is that bottle similar to Pelikan's small one?  And Kaweco?

I have a couple of 5280 inks and they used the same bottles.  Probably common.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I would have said similar to Pelikan's @Sailor Kenshin, as Kaweco have had all kinds of bottles since they turned up again. I only got a small sample, though, so I haven't seen them IRL either. Yup, I'd say they're the most common bottles here.

😮 Twice the price @yazeh - that's shocking. Here Diplomat is only € 2 more (but still, why buy it if you can get either and it's the same ink?!).

Thanks @LizEF! Let me know if you don't have a sample after all and want to see it from an EF nib. I have one here for this pen and could easily do it! (I bet it's still going to sheen!)

:) Thank you, but please don't go out of your way - I actually don't use EFs much, only for my review series, and it'll be the end of next year before I order any more inks.

What gave you the idea for the review series, though?

Also of note is @LizEF's post count fast approaching 10,000!

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

OK, then I won't @LizEF! (What gave you the idea for the review series, though? Curious now!)

As @A Smug Dill linked (thanks, Dill!) - somewhere in there, it probably relates the fact that I did initially use EF nibs almost exclusively, and I found that even with, e.g., my TWSBI EF nibs, inks did not look like they did in reviews.  And I couldn't predict how they would look - paler or darker - it depended on the ink.  This frustrated me quite a bit, especially before I became an ink sample convert. :)   So, years later when I felt experienced enough, I decided to start doing reviews for folks who are, or would be, where I was when I was using EF nibs so much.

These days, I prefer Japanese F, western EF & F, and stub nibs - but I rarely use my other Japanese EF nibs.

As for my post count, Klaw may be what's tipping me over the edge - he's so adorable  I just had to share with my online friends:

Thank you @Nellie for the review and inktroduction!

Thank you @yazeh for extending the view and for comparing brands and bottles.

I like this dark green which seems to be well behaving (even when written with a wet dip pen). From distance I expect it being a good alternative to the Pelikan 4001 Dark Green (of new formula). I definitely will give it a try (and the Burgunder as well). Finding the "right" green is so much harder than finding the "right" blue.

PS: I managed to stop buying new fountain pens but can't resist buying new inks for an ever growing collection that is already lightyears beyond my need. ;)

One life!

Thanks @LizEF! I enjoy your reviews too, and find them useful despite the fact that I only have and use one EF among my pens! (I can't remember for sure but as far as I can, for me it was most disappointing that years ago - when we usually scanned in ink reviews instead of taking pics - every ink would be tons darker than what I had seen in the reviews, in everything except for my stubs or italics. I think most of my pens are on the wet side.)

You're welcome @InesF! Yup, finding the right green is hard. Mine seems to be among the regular Noodler's (Gruene Cactus and Standard Green, Green Marine is OK too), as I find most green inks too far on the blue side or too light/washed out. This one here leans a bit blue too, more than the Kaweco, but somehow I'm still interested (maybe my tastes are changing towards darker greens again 😄).

:) You're most welcome.  And yep, wet nibs tend to make inks darker.

Thanks for the info (I only used B&W film and learned to process that).   Boy -- the stuff I learn here!  Just continually astounded at the depth and breadth of knowledge in this community! Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

It just wasn't likely to have been Kodachrome.  It would have been the films I referred to as "other color films." (Kodachrome is not a generic term for color film. It is a specific film that produces transparencies, or slides, by a process not used for any other film. There are other color trans

@Ceilidh -- Well, I knew people who were photography majors in college, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of them were doing photos in color, not just B&W like I learned to process.  Whether they were doing the processing of the film themselves in one of the darkrooms, or sending their stuff out to be processed commercially?  That I don't actually know, but had always assumed that they were processing their own film. Kodachrome 25 was the most accurate film for clinical photography and was used by dermatologists everywhere. I got magnificent results with a Nikon F2 and a MicroNikkor 60 mm lens, using a manually calibrated small flash on a bracket. I wish there were a filter called "Kodachrome 25 color balance" on my iPhone camera.
