Majohn A1 Updated Body Models

Recommended Posts

Majohn is adding two new body styles, Inverse Scale and Striped, to the A1 lineup on 6/16/23.

$20.94 for the new body model versus 19.40 for the original models directly from the flagship. I expect the Aliexpress vendors to add $10 to that during the initial release frenzy.

Unfortunately, in between this and the A2 release, there are still no nib unit options outside EF. If you want spare nib units, the Aliexpress sellers have been offering them between $7-11.  Pilot indirectly, or directly if you have your tin foil hat on,  is still benefiting from this if you want any nib variation.

I will update when they arrive.

Those are attractive. I want them to make a version of the matte blue by Pilot.

I've seen a few people refer to Majohn/Moonman's "flagship" store. Where can this mysterious beast be found?

Thanks

Think it's on Taobao/China "physical" store? Regardless, not an option for foreign buyers without a China based agent from my understanding.

Thanks @LiquidInk.

@mariommariom You do not need tango the agent route.

You have to set up an Alipay account and a Taobao account.

I also use a credit card I specifically set up for foreign purchases (overkill at this point) but peace of mind for those who might need it.

It is not as complicated as it appears but it all comes down to one's comfort level and dealing with the various hoops you have to jump through to sign up.

During the pandemic shipping was insane but now that things have returned to some form of normality paying the freight is the onky barrier for some. It's like buying from Costco in some respect.  You need ti buy whatever in bulk to make the 20-35 freight costs worth the purchase.  I received my last purchase in exactly 7 days. You get flagship prices versus the independent seller markups. Sometimes it matters, sometimes it does not.

Love the looks of the pens.  I own four A1s and four A2.  Really do  like the Majohn/Moonman

pen.  Will purchase one as soon as is available for me to buy.  I do wish the A1s came in some

additional attractive colors.

It took 7 days for me to get this after I ordered them directly from the flagship store.

It will be interesting to see what other directions they take the model. These look and feel great.

I feel like something is still missing due to Majohn not offering nib variety. Pilot remains a direct beneficiary of that wrinkle until Majohn decides to offer anything other than an EF.

IMG20230702175732.thumb.jpg.d8c88c568b721e6c6ef323c7ccf175b0.jpgMy new A1 arrived yesterday evening.  Got it inked with Diamine Oxblood.  Took it to church today to take notes!  Attractive!  I purchased the grey fish scale model.

Does anyone know if the nib (not the whole nib unit) fit unto the nib unit of a pilot capless?

Nibs/feeds look exactly the same, so I'll assume yes..

I exchanged the A1 unit for Pilot because the A1 unit "spits" a small amount of ink when deployed.  This adds up and makes a mess inside the barrel.  Not an isolated incident, as I have seen the same in a YT video.  Also mentioned on reddit.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Thus far I have not had the spitting problem with any of my A1s or A2s.  Thank

goodness!  Will keep my eyes open for problems.  These are both my A1s and

A2s.  I do prefer the A1, and hope they come up with additional models for

the A1.

The ink spatter on the nib unit - eliminated that by putting silicone grease on the nib unit barrel.  Have

not had any big issues since I started applying a bit of silicone grease.  If I drop the pen or manhandle

the pen I will find some splatter, however, I tend to be careful with how I handle my fountain pens to

minimize that concern.  Here are 4 nib units of the A1s.  The bottom one is the VP nib unit.  The

other three are Majohn nib units.  These four pens are currently inked.  The VP nib unit has the

most ink splatter (had no silicone grease)IMG20230708193854.thumb.jpg.f4e1f2bbb74b55d958ce39d2b7942399.jpgIMG20230708193854.thumb.jpg.f4e1f2bbb74b55d958ce39d2b7942399.jpg.  Hope this helps you as well.  Have a good weekend.

Silicone grease on the barrel stops ink coming out of the feed?

The first time it was suggested to me to use silicone grease was 2022.  The grease together with

how I handle my pens is what appears to have kept my pens from experiencing heavy ink splatter.

Actually, it was the real VP nib unit which experienced the heaviest splatter.  It was the one unit I

did not use silicone.  It has helped with the issue from the beginning.  Technically, like yourself, I

would think not.  Yet since it appears to work, therefore I will continue to use the silicone grease.

I also tend to sit this pen nib up.  I never felt I would like this pen design, and together with the cost,

I did not purchase a VP.  When the Moonman/Majohn came out with the A1, the cost enticed me

and I have not looked back.

I put a Majohn nib onto a Pilot nib unit. It works, but the nib didn't slide on very easily. Had I known, I wouldn't have bought the Majohn nib.

Why do you like the A1 more?

I like the design of the A2 more and am tempted to buy one since I have none of the 2.
