Ideal and Dauntless Question

Is the 1940's "DAUNTLESS" an "IDEAL" pen model, OR is what I thought" is a "Dauntless" is actually an "Ideal"?

Clip, trim and lever are chrome(?), not gold plated/filled.

The nib is not marked 14K gold.

Nib has

"WATERMAN'S"

"IDEAL"

"REG. US"

"PAT OFF."

"2"

"MADE IN"

...

The lower half of "Made In" is covered by the section. Whatever is below "Made In" is completely covered by the secion.

I am not going to take the feed and/or nib out of the section to see where it was made.

The pen writes just dandy, so no real reason to take it apart, and chance making it a non-writer.

Besides. I don't have the tools to punch the feed and nib out, anyway.

Barrel has "Wterman's Ideal" and "Made In USA'

As far as i know "Ideal" is just a part of the waterman brand and not a model name. basically every waterman around and prior to this date from the very early pens are marked  "waterman's 'Ideal' Fountain pen". Kind of like "Onoto the pen".

Some of the very early imprints on barrels and nibs

Later pens still with Ideal naming on nibs and on the barrel in the middle of the globe logo. Still earlier than the Dauntless

Waterman 515, W2 etc probably closer to the era you are dealing with.

Single cap band chrome trim pen with "United States of America" imprint line. With a number 2 nib. Don't know what to call this.

If your pen happened to have a number printed under the barrel imprint then you can match it up with the catalog to find exactly what it is. Catalog will have the model number and possible colors next to each of the pens. i.e 515B would be a blue commando pen in the catalog (model 515 may show up on the barrel imprint). Not sure if Dauntless has it though. Please correct me if this is wrong. I am no waterman expert and therefore can be very very wrong.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
