Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Waterman Radiant Pink

This is review #233 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: This was from a short cartridge.  It is indeed radiant, and leans purple.  A very bright color, rather unlike Waterman. :) While there is technically shading, you really have to look for it.

Cleaning was quick and easy, but may require an extra flush or two of plain water - pink inks tend to cling a little.  No rubbing or pen flush required, just water.

Other (Just a little doodle I made using this ink.)

Zoomed in photo (Fairly close. Might be lacking a little of the purple lean.)

Screenshot (Pretty close.)

Scan of Completed Review (Almost perfect. Go by the color in this one.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (AP: It's darker in real life; CP: It doesn't look fuzzy-edged in real life, color is off a bit.)

Line width (One of the lines used for dry time. Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 300µm. With 233 inks measured, the average line width is 296µm.)

Microscope image (400x. There were several of these, otherwise the ink was boring. :) Color is very accurate.)

This is a truth exceptional  @LizEF , thanks to your "doodle" and that beautiful microscopic  image.

The ink itself however is too radiant to my taste ;), But if it helps Quin to cross the river who am I to argue. If Makhabesh was using this ink in his fireballs, I guess those mean character look even more foolish in flaming pink :D

Excellent! I love your sketches. Biggest problem here -- IYAM -- is that your doodle dated 29 Mar 2023 ain't no liddle doodle, that's one huge piece of art. I couldn't think of a better "theme" to portray this color.

FWIW, this pink -- originally named  just "Pink" by Waterman -- is and was always only  available in cartridge form. (Unless of course they've changed that recently).

:) Thank you, @lapis!  The doodle is on an "artist trading card", so 2.5" x 3.5"  (63.5mm x 88.9mm), so, still little, even if it's a huge piece of art. :D   I really enjoy doing these.  There are several on my website.

Well, the "Radiant" addition seems to fit. :D  Yes, I found it strange how this color is only in cartridges.  And as I recall, their brown was never available in cartridges, which is how it came to be their only color I didn't get a sample of to test.  I got a sample pack with one of each available Waterman short cartridge - a cheap way to test lots of inks. :)  And then they discontinued Absolute Brown before I got a sample. :(

They are fantastic. It must be very mediative and relaxing. Maybe in a previous life, you were mosaic master :)

Interesting color.  Is this ink available in bottles, or just as cartridges?

Yep.  That's the reason I started doing them.  And it's fairly easy to make something pretty, too. :)

Far as I know, it's only available in cartridges.

Sigh.  That's a dealbreaker for me.

Too bad.  I've liked some of the Waterman inks I've tried -- and Mysterious Blue is my go-to ink for the Red Shadow Wave Vacumatic.

@LizEF: Whoa!!!  Eye-searing! WHAT a doodle!  And that otherworldly pansy!

I might actually have some of this ink, given to me by someone, or in a trade.  I don't think I ever used it.

Thanks as always for my favorite ink reviews and Dream Team serial.

Current mood: builds bridges for sole purpose of burning them.  Hope Quin et al fare better.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Might want to check.  I find Waterman cartridges tend to allow evaporation faster than some other brands. :(

Now I know why this ink seemed so familiar when I've never written with it: soooo close to the Thornton ink, which I've been using now and then since April.

Those groans in the video background?  That's me.

Oh, yes, Thornton's Magenta is very close.

Wohooo! Thank you @LizEF for the story, for this exciting doodle-artwork , for the inktroduction and for the microscopy.👩‍🎓

I didn't know about this Waterman ink (maybe because I do not use cartridges since more than 40 years) and, inkwise, I do not feel having missed something. However, the scientist within me is now a bit sad about the missed opportunity in microscopy of this ink. ;)

Looking forward to to more doodles, more story, more microscopy! Keep these good things coming, please! :)

One life!

I didn’t know this ink existed either. Thanks for the review. It might be worth getting. Waterman cartridges evidently fit in Visconti C/C pens. I was given a box of them in lieu of a converter at a now closed pen store in Chicago when I bought a Michelangelo pen.

Edit:  wheeee! I found some on eBay! Bought the 6 short cartridges that will cost over a dollar a cartridge. ($6.45)

  Well, it's not too late - as far as I know, they still make this ink.  What you'd do with the rest of the cartridges once a minute amount went under the microscope, I don't know, but I'm sure the scientist in you could figure out something. ;)

:) Thank you.  Might be a while on the doodles - I have a separate project going right now, so no time to doodle.

:) You're very welcome.  Waterman cartridges should fit in any Standard International pen.

Getting back into cartridges -- or taking out that what's in them -- every time we discuss that this pink is only available in cartridges, I also think of Pelikan's  Pink, which is also only available in that form...

  Interesting.  I wonder why they chose to do that.
