PLP Pens

Recommended Posts

I received these two PLP pens a few days ago. The clipless one is a custom made one, and the other one is similar to their earlier acrylic model. Both pens are made out of my favourite material, ebonite.

The pens were ready and shipped on the 9th day itself since I placed my order, which is excellent in my opinion 👍

Each pen came in its own separate box. I got both pens threaded for jowo nib units, as I already have many units lying around.

The pens themselves are very well built and beautiful. There is not a single pit - common in girthier Indian ebonites - in any of them. Both pens are over 140mm uncapped, and I find them very well balanced.

And the best part is how easy it was to get these pens based on my customisations. Over the years I had to struggle so often to get even minor customisations done from many of our Indian pen sellers. Other penmakers need to take a note from this.

Overall, am very happy with both the pens. And if anyone is looking for some well made ebonite pens, and wants the best bang for the buck, PLP pens is a great option.

For pricing and availability, please WhatsApp Mr.Satish Kumar from PLP pens on this number +91 96522 76914

Last year I bought a PLP made pen which was very similar to Gama one.

And for these two pens, my first thought while opening and closing the section was it reminded me of ASA pens. Very similar friction between the section and barrel, which ASA said is done for eyedropper mode.

Anyway, I haven't bought any new Gama and ASA pens for a while now, so no idea how far they have improved their pens. But these two are clearly better finished then either of those. And now that I have regularly used these pens and am still using them, I must admit I am happy I got them. The polishing is so good, the ebonite itself is faultless, and the weight distribution, balance, everything is good.

The only thing which I would like to change is that the cap opens in one turn(it's a single threaded pen) But that's my fault, I should have mentioned it to them when I ordered and I am sure they would have complied. And by far this has been the most easiest conversation I had with any Indian pen seller with regards to customisation.

I actually do Sir. I don't cap my pens too tightly, so prefer at least over one and half turns, more if it's single threaded. They just give me the assurance that the cap won't accidently wobble and get loose.

And the threads sometimes just wore off after heavy use. I had this pen which used to open under two turns(single threaded), and after a year of heavy use just opened under one turn. So for single threaded pens, in terms of longevity, I feel more secure if the cap atleast takes over two and half turns.

BTW it was you only Sir who once so clearly explained to me about the benefit of multi_threaded pen over single threaded. That information, combined with my own experience, has taught me to stay away from single threaded pens which open under one turn.

I agree with you. I prefer a single turn cap on-cap off. But only if the threads are multi start. Else give me a 5 turn vintage Deccan any day. Or the king of convenience, Guider Pushcap.

I got an old Deccan Masterpiece this year which opens in 7 turns, but i don't mind it.

I wish I could love the pushcap as much as you do. I hold my pens around threads and always felt it would be more comfortable to use a pen without threads. But I found the pushcap so slippery that I had to use a tighter grip than usual to write with it.

The pen is not to blame. It's just me who uses such a light grip that the seamless design didn't provide the friction that a threaded one does. So one pushcap is enough for me.

Oh. The grip of the pushcap is ideal for me. Ebonite warmth etc. just goes to show why one pen design won’t fit all. 👍

Sorry for a really late response. Lovely pens here and it's really nice that there are no pits on the pen. Sadly I requested a similar pen and unfortunately they currently don't have good black ebonite rods. So I have ordered a 16-17cm jumbo in black acrylic with a 40mm nib

Oh. Sad to hear that. I was hopeful that the thick ebonite rods will improve in quality, but it's been like this since 3 years now. Look forward to seeing your acrylic Jumbo pen 👍
