Rohrer & Klingner Dokumentus Ink - Braun

This ink is one of the best, permanent inks I’ve ever used. It has wonderful low dry time, below 30s with broad nib on all paper. It’s a joy to write or sketch with.

It is the epitome of German efficiency. It works, it’s solid and it’s simple.

There’s nothing “sexy” about this ink, it hasn’t got a complex chroma or an unusual name.

For simplicity’s sake, I limited my testing to two pen, and avoided flex and fude nibs.

A full written page with a broad nib, might have a hint of green, or a lovely grey haze, depending on the light. As a sketch ink, it looks almost black, especially on absorbent paper, as you can see on this sketch:

Paper is Fabriano Sketch - Very absorbent paper.

 Cat at the therapist

Cat: I identify as I dog. But the dogs don't like me.

Dr. Mouse: As long as you don't identify as a cat, I'm fine with that :)

Watertest:

I cut the paper into two. The left side was held under running water for 10 seconds.

Thank you, @yazeh for another very thorough review peppered with kitty sketches. :D  Dr. Mouse doesn't seem like the best therapist in the world... :glare:  Perhaps kitty should get a second opinion...

Meanwhile, nice that it's such a good permanent ink - rare to find one that's well behaved all around.

I have this ink, but rarely use it. I think it was nudged out of my limited memory by the R&K SketchInks.

Thankyou for the reminder. Right then, an empty pen... with a drawing nib, I think.

Will work for pens...

Most welcome!

Yep, Kitty should get a second opinion or I can rewrite it ;)

Isn't it so? :)

I find this one better than Marlene and Klara, the only two, I've got ;)

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)

Thanks again for a nice review. To be honest (you asked me not to hesitate...), I kinda like this ink. But for me, it's (only) a crude or crass brown (nothing meant cynically). More of a jade or olive-green, both of which have their own merits. For an all-time "brown", I'm still looking at my CdA Grand Canyon. Now that  had character. Too bad it was chucked out ten years ago....

Yeah. I get what you mean :) I have different browns for different moods ;)

What do you mean, no complex chroma?  It's got PINK in it!  😜

Thanks, @yazeh, for the cool review and cartoons.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I don't know where that pink came from. Maybe I should do it again :)

Thank you @yazehfor this ink review and for the nice drawings. Do I remember correctly that cats reappear quite frequently in your reviews? 😄 But wait, do all your cats identify as cats?

Like mouse and cat, I guess this document ink is on "eyes height" with Sketchink Lilly and with the non-waterprove Sepia. So I start guessing what may be the difference between Sketchink and Document ink from R&K ... 🤫 Did you find any documentation or data sheets?

One life!

Yep. They do.

To be honest, all they care about is to go out, eat, purr, be brushed, settle on your lap and watch Bird TV ;) and catch anything moving. They don't bother about the human condition :)

Actually Sepia is decently water resistant. To be honest I can't say what's the difference between the two lines. Thom on this thread said that the most popular in the document series are the blues. He might know more :)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
