Today I went exploring with my family in Kerrytown and the surrounding downtown area, and I found two shops with some fun stationery items, including some Kaweco Sports in one shop, called Found, and some Lamy’s in the Literati book shop. They had a Safari in Terra Red, which I had to have. The matte finish along with the black clip and black steel nib are all very compelling, and I was happy to have the chance to get a feel for it in person.

This got me thinking about the Ann Arbor Pen Posse that I’ve seen mentioned in the forum. I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes on the organizational side of things, but I do want to say I’m very interested in getting to know some other pen enthusiasts in the area!

Greetings from the west side! If you ever hear about any pen-related events in the Grand Rapids area, please let me know. If I ever hear about anything in the AA area, I'll be sure to make you aware.

Did you happen to notice if Found or Literati sold Pilot Metropolitans? A Meijer near me was selling them for $16 not too long ago but have not re-stocked after they sold out.

That’s a great price for a great pen!

Neither of the stores I visited had Pilots, which is a bummer, because I love how they write. I’m also devoted to their Iroshizuku inks.

I’ll definitely share any Michigan fountain pen finds. Happy writing!

Thanks for the tips on Found and Literati, @bookwrapt.  I don't get to AA very often, but I'll try to keep them in mind next time I do.

I'd love to see our pen posse start up again, too.  Unfortunately, I'm not much of an organizer, and I don't know my way around the area that well.  We used to meet at the Corner Brewery (in Ypsi?) once a month, but I don't even know whether someone used to contact the brewery ahead of time, or whether we just showed up and snagged a table or two.  I just used to watch the forums here and tell my husband what day and time we had to be there. :)

That’s great info! Maybe someone there remembers the group. What day/time did you meet up?

Used to be 2:00 on the second Sunday of the month, if my memory is accurate that far back. :)

I live in the Ann Arbor area and just came across this thread. Did the group ever pull together and start meeting?

Not that I've heard of.  I didn't even get to the Detroit pen show last year, so I haven't seen any of the old crew for ages.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
