Kaco Retro leaky nibs?

I got a Kaco Retro recently which worked really well out of the box. I re-inked it a few days ago, and somehow when uncapping the pen a short section of metal tubing fell out of the cap (???) - since then the nib seems to be leaking and burping when capped.

Correlation? Causation? I can't tell, and I'm not familiar enough with troubleshooting pens to know where to start. Anyone have any ideas?

Causation seems reasonable. Caps usually have some sort of internal seal; otherwise the pen could dry out quickly, or alternatively, leak. The tubing may have been part of the sealing mechanism.
