Baltimore Pen Show

I was at the Baltimore Pen Show today — arriving at 11.15 am — and it was a madhouse! No parking and elbow-to-elbow on the show floor, but so much fun! I sold two pens and bought a new Namiki Ginkgo, plus a Pilot pen case and some ink! So great to see so many pen people having such a good time!

Yeah, compared to Friday, parking today was just crazy.  Turned out that there was someone who I think was hotel staff directing people to what I first thought was reserve parking for people trying to take the hotel shuttle to the airport, but she said it was okay to park there.  And when the Pilot table had the drawing for those three special urushi pens, in the afternoon, I couldn't get through that aisle, it was so jam-packed in front of their table.

Sunday was much more sedate but parking was also a pain. There was an Amazon recruitment event that probably competed for parking spots.

 

I finally pulled the trigger and picked up a Wahl Eversharp Decoband with superflex nib in green and another Taccia urushi in blue. And JC (Nib Tailor) was kind enough to squeeze me in during the afternoon to mod my Pelikan M1000.

Which blue Taccia?  I was looking at those.

i didn't buy any pens at the Baltimore show, but I got six pens repaired: the two recent Snorkel purchases, a 51 Vac that I picked up a while back, got the diaphragm replaced on the red Shadow Wave Vac I'd bought in the auction at a pen show a few years ago, got the no-name mauve Vulcanite ring top up and running (and discovered this morning that the 14K nib has some flex to it ) and had the sac replaced on a Platignum calligraphy set I'd picked up at a local 

I did make some small purchases.  And yesterday morning one fairly large one (in both senses of the word ) -- a large Pelikan pen holder with the blue glaze finish.  Haven't tried it yet (at the moment it's on the fireplace mantle, but eventually it will go upstairs to either my desk or the antique dental cabinet I bought just as the world was going into lockdown, but which still needs stuff like replacing the knobs -- I need to figure out the right length and diameter screws -- and figure out how to restore the interiors of the metal shelves on the cabinet).

Pretty tired when I got home last night -- the place I stopped for lunch was unbelievably slow (I think I was in line 10-15 minutes before I got SEATED; and scared off a couple of guys who came in after me; when I told them how I'd been standing and hadn't MOVED, they just left).  And then poked around an antiques mall for a bit in Hagerstown (I think I stopped at the same place on the trip down to BW last year).  But had to backtrack to get back down to I-70, and then hit some bad weather driving across I-68 in western MD; I kept eyeballing the outside thermometer readings on the dashboard -- especially when the air temps got down to 30°F -- and at one point on the road up to the Turnpike from there I think it was down to 29°F(!); so hoping that people who had longer drives than me got home safely.  Woke up this morning to snow showers, but the snow seems to have melted, and (according to the noon news) it's currently above freezing here -- although the wind chill is making it feel in the 20s...).  Plus, the traffic was squirrelly most of the way home -- including someone who decided to change lanes in the Squirrel Hill tunnel, RIGHT in front of me... 🤬; at least the driver didn't completely cut me off in the process -- but the vehicle was moving to fast for me to get the license plate).
