Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Platinum Pigment Blue

This is review #217 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: I used my Penmanship, in case of staining.  Cleaning was fairly easy, but it did want to clean to the inside of the section. Plan for a pen flush or swab to aid you in a full cleaning.  This is that shade of blue that makes me yawn. Apparently I had something (probably glitter from the last ink) stuck in the tines, so it wrote super dry and pale until I flossed the tines, and then wrote how you see it in the review.

I did fade testing on this ink - see below for the image (no fading).  The microscope slide was dull as could be, so no picture.

Where happy tears of silk worms originated.

Zoomed in photo (Too pale, possibly too blue (I think it needs a little blurple).)

Scan of Completed Review (This seems to be the closest in color.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (Both are too pale.)

Line width (One of the lines used for dry time. Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 310µm. With 217 inks measured, the average line width is 295µm.)

Water Test Results (This seems to show color the best, particularly the darker, small text explaining the need to floss.)

Lightfastness Test (From 2016, after hanging in a south-facing window for 2 years.)

Thank you @LizEFfor the review but especially for the relaxing moments in the storyline. Our beloved heroes reached the point where small achievements added up to become great! 😊

Ballpoint blue - isn't it?

Much to learn these Pilot people have ...

One life!

:glare: Yes.  ::yawn::  (At least it shades a bit.)

Lovely review as usual @LizEFl. I felt like @InesFthat the colour suited the muted/gentle tone of this paragraph. I especially appreciated the writing... 🥲

and that's some serious shading on the last image :)

:D  That was probably one of the first times I used a Jinhao nib in a nib-holder as a dip pen.  Doing it that way can create artificial shading.  (Though this ink is pale enough, that the right nib and paper should yield plenty of shading.)

Wow.  The close-ups make this look like a pale neon purple!  Now, even though I am not a big user of purples, that neon-y hue interests me.  And the other photo makes it look blue-black.  I wonder if it could be the same ink that comes in Platinum cartridges, and strips the plating off my poor Preppys.

Happy tears of silkworms, yay!  Thanks, @LizEF, for another great review and serial!

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I immediately knew that this ink was going to trigger your yawn-o-meter! I can't think of many other inks that get ballpoint blue as well as things like Pilot Blue or Platinum Pigment Blue. BUT, sometimes, when I writing with this ink, it's hard to figure out why I still like it so much. I do think it tends to write a little too light for me to really get into it (much like Pilot Blue). I like a little darker color.

:) Note the comments on the images - the scan is closest, and not neony or as blurple as the others.  Nonetheless, it certainly leans purple in my eyes.

As I understand it, no, it's not.  The cartridges that come with pens is Platinum Blue-Black, no pigment - iron gall.

  Well, I certainly can't explain why you like it, but I can say that for permanent "royal blue" -ish colors that are darker, MB Permanent Blue is probably the darkest.  It was in the same lightfastness test as this ink, and did just as well, but was much darker.  Only Sailor Seiboku came close to being as dark, and it's also a much more interesting color. :D   (I tested Platinum Pigment Blue, MB Permanent Blue, Sailor Seiboku, and De Atramentis Document Blue.  Platinum was the palest color.  Interestingly, it's more blue after shaking up the vial, and shows more purple without shaking it up...)
