I finally received seven x159 fountain pens from China as shown below:

Before being shipped to me, each had been dipped in ink to test for writing.  I have not filled one yet, as I'm waiting on the pens to dry from my cleaning process.  Perhaps I'll provide my own impressions after I've written with one for awhile.

Amazing - let me know which colour writes the best, so I can place an order! 😉

Just an update to say that with the release of new colours (cream, green, orange and a few others) there is now an EF option. I've got both the orange and green in EF, and they have pretty good nibs.

John

I purchased one about 8-10 years ago when I think you could have any colour you like ...as long as it was black with silver trim 🙂 and to the best of my knowledge, no choice of nib. (Mine looks like a fine but writes like a medium. I think mine cost about £10 back then. Not sure if I've been lucky but I never purchased a 'dud' Chinese pen.

I filled my new Jinhao x159 (lighter-green version) with Montblanc Irish Green ink several days ago and have been writing a bit with the pen each day.  It writes well now after some first-fill hesitation.  I am glad I purchased it, along with its different-color versions (because I tend to do that).

I got the Maroon coloured one with a fine nib and I was very happy with it. Then I ordered a blue one with an extra fine nib, it arrived yesterday and I am very happy with both pens!

I may just order more as someone has been fiddling with his collection of them and he mixes different coloured feed sections and some of the combinations look great!

Great pens and for the price, what a winner!

Thanks for the nice review. I got two x159 pens in my alma mater’s school colors, and swapped their grip sections to make alumni editions.  Fun!

I have a burgundy X159 with <F> and it is a wonderful, reliable, smooth writer. The <F> nib writes closer to a medium, which is fine by me. 😉

I have no need for a MontBlanc 149 now!  😀

After having four pilots metros, I got my first X-159 and loaded it up with Diamine Macassar. I haven't looked back yet.  It's the only ink that's ever been in it. It is my daily go-to pen for work. Glad I purchased it.

Weight: perfect for my big hands.

Nib: Nice and wet. No adjustment was needed. Lots of feedback.

Length: I like to write with it posted. Helps balance it out.

Cap: Be careful not to overtighten it. It takes about two full turns to uncap it, but this doesn't bother me at all.

Overall: Great pen.

Purchased it from Amazon.

Amazon has the Black X159 on sale for $4.99.  Could not resist....

I believe the Black color is the only color on sale at $4.99, the others are

$9.99.  Also, EF  nibs cost more!

One of my purposes for this pen, is to test if the 149 size works for me. And I would say, yes I find it to be good!

Thread bump!

I bought one of these yesterday from Amazon UK and it was delivered today.  I bought it for the exact same reason, ie to see if the 149 size works for me and it does.

I got it with the Medium nib and have had no issues with it at all.  I loaded it with Lamy black ink and I'm amazed at how smooth it writes.  It's as though I just wave it near the paper and I get a good flow.  The medium nib is far too broad for me though, it feels a lot thicker than a Lamy medium nib.

So I'm happy that I'll be comfortable with a Montblanc 149 but I'll need to visit somewhere that has the pens inked up so I can decide what nib to get.  That'll mean travelling to somewhere a bit further away from home as the only local stockist to me is a department store where I'm pretty sure they won't have multiple demonstrators.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
