Lucky Curves - model measurements

Recommended Posts

I could use an assist differentiating early Duofold Lucky Curve models.  For instance, I understand that an early "Lady" model was made without the ring on top.  How could I identify the difference between say a Jr and an early lady model without having them on hand, ie: online auctions etc.

For instance, am I looking at an old Jr that has had the cap top replaced incorrectly? Maybe there should be a ring on there? etc.

I would be happy to have any data specific to measurements so that I could have a solid question to ask sellers.

Thx.

You might want to look through some of the reviews in this forum to see if you find any measurements.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I recently got a Lapis Lazuli Lady Duofold Lucky Curve ringtop, at the Commonwealth Pen Show.  It wasn't till I looked more carefully at the pen that I noticed it actually SAID "Lady Duofold" in the imprint.

Inkstained.....   Thank you.  That's just the type of tip I was looking for.   I have bought a few pens that looked like one thing and turned out to be another.

I'm no Duofold expert so can be wrong in this .

They all seem to have roughly the same length JR looks to be significantly thicker though.

I don't have that many pens from this period to check, I have pens with 2 different JR imprints though.

Size wise , Canadian once blue and white pen and the lady Doufold pen are almost identical. Both in length and thickness.  Clip on it is broken off. Imprint doesn't mention Duofold at all.

Just had a quick look at one of the old catalogs and it gets complicated :(.  I think what I looked in was 1923 catalog which has a page (26) about Duofold JR $5 and Lady Doufold - $5. These probably would have Duofold Jr and lady Duofold marked on the imprint.

Few page down it shows series 20,  20 1/2 20 and 20 1/2 medium length and so on. these can be ordered with different rings and either clip or ring top either as self fillers or non self fillers. Some on the pictures shows jack-knife imprint , some don't. I don't know if they all had the imprint or not (it could be just the picture).

Using measurements you would be able to tell Duofold JR and Lady Duofold models apart, but there is also the other / jack-knife pens that may have overlapping measurements? best way I guess is to ask for an image of the imprint and check that to make sure it is one or the other.

@shalitha33I presume that the photo of the "Lady Duofold" imprint is from the Jade (?) pen three from the right in the next photo (just to the right of the faded blue one and white one).  That green ringtop is very similar to mine, except for being green instead of the "Lapis Lazuli" blue (which may be the "blue on blue" Lapis Lazuli II coloration according to Richard Binder's site) -- same shape, same number/size and alignment of cap bands, same imprint.

Yes the small jade one is the lady duofold. Its kind of a franken pen sadly.  I got it without a cap and the cap is a replacement. Barrel has fairly good coloring . Cap is badly discolored and is of the wrong jade type :(.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
