Stipula - Sepia Ferrogallico IG Ink

Recommended Posts

Special thanks to @chromantic for this ink!

So far, I have only tried it on Tomoe River Paper that I purchased in 2015, and I've only used it in the Montblanc 149 with the Fritz Schimpf Italic Edge.

As a warning, the Italic Edge is a HUGE nib probably close to a 4B, and it is laying down a ton of ink. The Sepia was much wetter than I had anticipated, but I had tried the red and was thrilled with it's performance.

More scans and images will be uploaded as I try different pages.  These first pages were scanned with the Fujitsu ScanSnap ix 1500.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Now we do have some show through, and perhaps ghosting where I had washed the ink.  Here is the backside of the sheet above.

However, the ink did show through and perhaps ghost on the TR paper even when I didn't wash it with water.

Not what I would have called "sepia" color (it's a little too red-leaning for that...).  Also, I have a question -- how much have the writing samples sat between being done and being scanned, because I'd be curious as to how much oxidation had taken place.

But thanks for the review/writing samples.

Are you sure this is IG?

Yes, I'm sure it is IG. I wasn't initially sure it was sepia.

Thank you for your review

That's one rich colour which reminds me of fall.

But I'm afraid it's one those wannabe IG's which is faintly waterproof. I'll stick to my Essri ;)

Oh lots of the sepias were red leaning including those made from the cuttlefish.  But here is a comparison from @Intensity.

This ink is no ESSRI.  It is beautiful, and I love it for doodling trees, but it's not really waterproof.

Looks fab with that broad wet nib.  Looked at Sandy1's, thankfully still available review, for a finer line version.  Guess I'll be breaking  my determination not to purchase any more ink.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Well of course not!  It's an ink and Essri is a snek! ;)

Stipula is listed on Cult's Brand page, but no longer carrying any product.  Sent an enquiry email.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
