Santa Claus / Coca-Cola Red - Does it exist?

I am looking for what I am calling  a Santa Claus / Coca-cola red color? To my eye, its a true red - doesn't lean purple, doesn't lean pink, doesn't lean brown. I have not tried many reds but did try Diamine Ho-Ho and that was way to pink. Does Santa Claus red ink exists? Thanks!

Sounds like you want to have a look at Diamine Classic Red -- that's my "smack in the middle of the spectrum/fire engine/color of my first car (a 1984 Dodge Omni in the color 'Graphic Red') red" ink.

that sounds pretty easy. Any chance you know how it well it flows?

@CoolBreezeHaven't used it for a while, but my notes say that it had pretty good flow in a Pilot Metropolitan with an M nib, and that it dried pretty quickly (about 10 seconds) on the crummy paper in the Piccadilly sketch pad where I tested it (although I did have a little bit of bleed through on that paper, especially when I pressed down more.

ETA: @JulieParadise-- I haven't found that to be the case with Skrip Red (unless they've changed the formula now that they're owned by Cross).  I found Skrip Red to be more of a blood red (leaning a little brown-ish).

Sheaffer Skrip Red, as suggested/recommended above. Otherwise -- even if I sometimes feel it has a half a tick orange in it -- Diamine's Poppy Red and/or Wild Strawberry.

I suggest Pilot Mixable Red, but only available in Pilot cartridges, I think.

In RGB space, pure red is (255, 0, 0); HEX code #FF0000. Plug that into InkSwatch.com and this is what you get: https://inkswatch.com/choice.html?hexColorChoice=FF0000

Firmly in the Diamine Classic Red camp. Very much a true red- it's the ink I use on Christmas cards. And yes, like Ruth I did have a car that color. Come to think of it was the color of my first car too. (1970 Ford Torino GT)

Not excessively wet or dry as I recall. It has been a while since I last had it in a pen. I often use it in a pen with a stub nib.

This scan looks pink, but this ink is Coca Cola Red.

Also, check out the inks in the signature line below.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thank you! Sometimes the scan/pictures are off a little so I really appreciate your commentary on what you see in person!

You're going to discover that What You See Ain't What You Get.  Perception of color can vary depending on the color and brightness of your paper, width and wetness of the line, lighting, and even how you write.  And what you see on your computer screen is further affected by the scanner/camera that captured the image, the software used to edit it, your video card and monitor (and sometimes the cable connecting them), not to mention all the drivers and settings thereof.

All that said, Diamine's Classic Red and Poppy Red have been mentioned as ideal "red as red can be" reds before.  My red for this purpose is Noodler's Rattler Red Eel.  You can also look into Amber's Red Swatch Thread, link copied here for your convenience:

I hear you on all of that. The diamine red dragon cat (in that Pic) looks like a wonderful red (true red but just a hint of black to it). I would take that in a heartbeat. That being said, every red dragon review I have read says it's one step brighter than oxblood being a red/brown.

Skrip Red is my benchmark "true red", and one of the things I think you'll find is that once you've decided that something is that color for you, it's your metric for everything else.

For me, the only other ink I own that I'd consider maybe a truer true red is Montblanc Corn Poppy. Unfortunately, Montblanc being Montblanc decided that they had to take a great red ink and turn it into something terrible(Modena red). If you have some, though, enjoy it.

I feel like my bottle of Diamine Poppy Red is a bit orange. It's darn close to "true" red but isn't there to my eyes. That's just my perception of it, though.

Along those same lines, I have a bottle of Akkerman #28 Chinatown Red that I bought in a large lot of ink a while back. I only swabbed/dipped it, but I've seen some speculation that Akkerman #28 is the same as Poppy Red. Can anyone comment on this?(I know most of the Akkerman inks have a direct Diamine counterpart).

I thought it would be a great red too but I honestly hate how MB changes color availability. Companies that do that drive me nuts.

Though it’s too late, I agree with the Sheaffer Skrip red recommendations.  The other for me is the discontinued Montblanc Corn Poppy Red. Glad I got a bottle of that before the change in color lineup for MB.

No worries. Thanks for the reply. I plan on ordering that in the next order. Retailer didn't have sample of that when I was looking. Thanks!
