Perhaps you answered your own question.  I can certainly recommend Mike Masuyama, who is experienced, skilled, professional, and kind.

As Killick mentioned, Mike Masuyama is a very popular nibmeister. While I haven't had him do any work , I tried but found his wait time (at the time) to be a little longer than I wanted. However, that wait time speaks to his recognized capability in my opinion.

I think there are a number of people doing high quality work - here are a few more to consider (in addition to Mike Masuyama):

Mark Bacas (https://www.nibgrinder.com/)

Gena Salorino (https://www.customnibstudio.com/)

Linda Kennedy (https://www.indy-pen-dance.com/nib-work.html)

Kirk Speer (https://www.penrealm.com/)

JJ Lax (https://www.jjlaxpenco.com/)

Mike Masuyama has retired...from my reading.

Helps to have an idea where in the world you are. In Europe there is are good nibmasters in Spain, England and Belgium.

By knowing where you are ink and paper advice can be made.

The Reality Show is a riveting result of 23% being illiterate, and 60% reading at a 6th grade or lower level.

Banker's bonuses caused all the inch problems, Metric cures.

Once a bartender, always a bartender.

The cheapest lessons are from those who learned expensive lessons. Ignorance is best for learning expensive lessons.

I don't think that's accurate.  I base this on the fact that he did a nib grind for me two months ago, that he had a table and was working on nibs at the Atlanta Pen Show last weekend, and that there's no mention of retirement on his website.

Can you provide a link where you read of his retirement?

anyone have experience with JJ lax and work product?

J.J. Lax did some smoothing and adjustment on my Pelikan M800 nib at the Baltimore Pen Show in 2017 or 2018.  He did a great job, and was very pleasant.

Something I read here on the com.... Retired can be like Richard Binder showing up at Pen shows. Richard has been retired at least some 5 + years.

But living in Germany, with the extreme high US mail costs, he was not much in my thoughts** outside knowing Mike Masuyama was a great nibmeister.

All but two of my pens are ok in my books, but one nail OB Lamy Persona made a CI by Pendelton Brown, and a BB 605 semi-nail stubbed to 1.0/B by Francis Goossens. I'm quite happy with both their work.
