Where did you find them and what nibs are they? That will help me locate one.

I have a bunch.  They came from the usual sources: antique stores, flea markets, pen shows, eBay, private deals, pen dealers… Some weren’t advertised as such and were just lucky accidents.  A few were mis-labeled as mediums and even fines.

Partial list: Montblanc 1950s 149 18c 3B, Pelikan BB script nib on a 400NN, Waterman 0554 flex stub, Skyline flex stub…

I also had a King of Pen B nib stubbed by John Mottishaw before he retired. I’m really happy with it.  It has just enough give to keep me satisfied and some pleasing line variation. It writes a bit like a vintage Pelikan.

Thanks that gives me some ideas of what to look for.

Amberleadavis, here is a candidate pen for you on ebay. I bid on it, but am not interested enough to bid much. It appears to be an italic nib with narrow horizontal lines and some flex. There is a video of it being used that might be informative. I have no idea how much something like this will go for. Plain Waterman 92 pens with ordinary nibs have been going for surprising prices on ebay.

This is something I found on Five Star Pens website awhile back for my Vacumatic Emerald Pearl. He called it a OM, but I have compared it side by side with the BB in my M205 DUO and it is every bit as wide. Plus as you can see looking at both sides it looks more like a stub or italic.

OH my, I missed this post. Thank you for the wonderful recommendation.  If I didn't have plans this weekend, I'd be looking at that pen!

Hi @amberleadavis.

That's an interesting question. If grinding a nib by yourself is not an option, I know at least one manufacturer offering stub/CI flex nibs in the standard program: Santini.

I own one of them and made it a bit smaller. Maybe not 1.9 but 1.5 mm should be in range.

You may get an ebonite feed together with it and all you need to do is drill a hole in a stick to fit the unit (no threads).

Only one hurdle: since over a year the possibility to order a nib without pen is "coming soon".

My experience with dip nibs is limited - I do not expect any flex from my calligraphy nibs and have never searched for any.

I would have said exactly the same thing, Santini.

Santini makes a stub nib that they call Flexy Stub.

It is flexy and it is extremely wet!

It's not very sharp, i.e. it's not a CI, so line variation is not huge, depends what you want.

You are not likely to get the nib without the pen (although mind you their customer service is really good, they may favor you if you insist, but on the other hand if you get one of their resin pens it will not cost you much more than the nib itself, and their prices are rather competitive).

They have an online site that you can check (they have some beautiful ebonite pens, they cost more though)

Search santini-italia

So, I contacted Santini, they will sell me an individual nib.  I'm going to a tournament this weekend. When I return, I will think about my budget.

Flexible and stub are not a normal combination, even in dip pens. Since I can't answer your question, I'll be like a politician and answer the question I want to answer, about dip pens.

The most flexible, broad stub pens I've found in dip pens are the Esterbrook 654 Barrister, and the Spencerian Congressional. The Congressional is the flexiest. The Esterbrook 248 Blackstone is the fattest stub dip pen that you can find relatively easily, and it's about 1.5, but not flexible. (the Esterbrook Columbia Stub is fatter, but very rare) The Congressional is a little thinner than those Esterbrooks, but very flexible, for a stub.

I did follow it, and wow it went high.  I saw this one too.  Based on the price already, it will go crazy too.

Not sure any of these would fit in one of those Speedballs, especially since they are longer than a normal nib, so the feed may not line up.

Adding dip pens to fountain pens is a whole sub-culture nowadays. One which I've not really entered into, but there are a lot of posts about it. They are mainly looking to add flexible, pointed pens to a fountain pen body, but the only issue with these flexible studs is the length. If you can figure that out, it might work.
