I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

From my inks I have the "pale" ones that come to mind-

Private Reserve Purple Haze

Montblanc Miles Davis Jazz Blue

All of the Storia by Sailor inks I've tried

How to use the online "inkmap"?

Tried inkmap today on a PC. The system works well, as below:

Went to

https://data-viz.it.wisc.edu/inkmap/

In top left box - selected "lightness"

In list of Brands to show - ticked all of them.

In the main scatter-plot of coloured dots - clicked and dragged the mouse to highlight a rectangle area up at the top of the "cool reds". (Imagining that I am looking for some pale crimson inks).

RESULT... a list of ten pink inks, tabulated and sortable by brand, name, and the colour swatch column.

Just ordered two of the Pennonia inks from Hungary, and they are super pale.  I used an italic dip nib, and the Danuvius was somewhat readable, but the Orgona was nearly hopeless for writing. [Sailor Manyo Ha-Ha for comparison].

Many inks can look very pale in the right pen. My current pale ink lineup:

Naturally pale:

Hisoku, Pelikan M205 F, B.

Ambre de Baltique, Artus 41 possibly F. Turns much darker in a pen that dries out quickly.

Gulf Blue, Vacumatic, possibly EF.

Much lighter than normal with the right pen:

Vert Empire, Bayard le 4, possibly EF.

Kon Peki, Studio EF.

Aonibi, Parker 75 F.

Barely readable combination:

Ina Ho, Penmanship EF.

Mandarin looks light but very vivid and entirely readable in a Parker 50, possibly F.

I bought samples of the two darkest looking yuramekus, yoi and kyokuya. They make haha look bright.

Diablo Menthe from herbin is the palest one I can remember, excluding maybe De Atramentis Document White (or other white inks) and Noodler's invisible inks. A slighly less pale but very pretty looking ink is Herbin's Rouille D'ancre, I want to get a bottle of that.

I was going to recommend exactly these two inks, adding the Zuzmó, too.

I'm also interested in pale inks! My contributions to the list:

Herbin Roulle D'Ancre - a pale rose with brown undertones (as opposed to purple or blue)

Ferris Wheel Press Sweet Honeydew - the colour of the flesh of a honey dew melon

Both of these are so pale as to be pretty useless for ordinary writing.

Birmingham Pens has quite a number of pale inks in unusual and in-between shades/hues.  Most of their lighter colors are even lighter on the page than their swabs.  Although not advertised as such, many of their inks show water resistance.  Most of their prices and customer service are agreeable as well.

The Pennonia Orgona looks Iike two very different inks here. Even the undertone shows different.

I have not tried this yet, but I think you could make a pale version of your favourite ink using the right additives. I'm keen to try this myself.

Here's a video that explains some of the things you can do:

The Octopus Pastel inks seem to be quite pale. I just ordered some samples; I'll provide more info when I receive them.

I have a couple of bottles of these (Blue Iris and Pebblestone) and like them. I keep meaning to add the pink or coral and blue when I see them at a good price again.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
