Today, it's been the Pelikan 400N with an EEF nib and Teranishi Smoky Navy, and also a Lamy Al-Star (in Boring Graphite) with a blue Lamy cartridge, which I picked up as a holder for working on Lamy nibs.* I have to say, the Al-Star is a nicer pen than I expected, on the basis of my experience with the Al-Star ballpoint, which I didn't like at all (this was a while ago, when I was first trying to kick my two-box-per-semester disposable-gel-pen habit.)  I wouldn't kick this one out of the pen tray, though!

(*I have a Lamy Unic whose fine white gold is broader than I find ideal for that pen; I don't plan to touch that, but I did pick up a couple of inexpensive Lamy EF steel nibs, and spent my afternoon break today trying to make one... I won't say "into a needlepoint," because that would imply I have a far higher estimate of my skills than I do... but let's just say: finer than it was. I think I got it (just) under .2mm and tolerably not-unsmooth.)

Maybe it needs an M17 refill. Jetstream is pretty good.

I have a couple of Safari ballpoibts that are getting M17 as soon as they can be acquired at reasonable prices here.

Will work for pens...

I absolutely love Monteverde inks. They are really well behaved in all of my modern pens, not too dry for my Pilots, not to wet for my Pelikans. They are legible in every nib size. I don’t use them in my sac pens, but that’s a complicated subject for a different conversation.

Yes! Mine too.

I don't have any sac pens, so I haven't experienced any of those challenges.

Yes, it has an M16 now, and the refill was a big part of the problem. Next time I need to add USD$11 to an order to make free shipping, I'll try an M17. 🙂 Thanks!

Monteverde Mountains of the World Cortina with M nib filled from a sample of Van Dieman’s Cradle Mountain Grey. It’s getting empty soon. Then it will get filled with the Italian Visconti Blue ink.

Please keep us informed. One of the reasons that I rarely, if ever, buy from an overseas vendor is because it's such a headache if there's a problem with what I receive. Especially in today's Bureaucratic Systematic environment.

I am pleased to report that Stilo & Stile were not a headache at all, but a model of responsive customer service. After I sent images and a short video of the pen in action, they contacted Leonardo and will be sending me a replacement nib, which they (the shop) will test in-house before shipping. All sorted in less than 48 hours. I added a pen case that I've been wanting anyway (and which AFAIK isn't available in the US) to the shipment, in the hopes that they will not lose money on the transaction. Another reason to get back to Rome ASAP, so that I can visit their store in person!

And today: Waterman “New Look” Super Cartouche glass cartridge pen, 1952, Waterman Inspired Blue.

Also the Lamy AL-Star in Boring Graphite with my homemade EEF, or eeph, as I guess I’ll call it. Among the many things I learned yesterday was that a Lamy Unic is too heavy for a very fine nib (and maybe especially for an amateurish one), but an AL-Star is a pretty good weight. (Another thing I learned: quit while you’re ahead. This was even finer at one point… and then it wasn’t.)IMG_2314.thumb.jpeg.f1e421683c21c1de7fbb41bfd9fd4493.jpeg

@Russprechtl What specific model of pen is that?  And is the barrel and cap sterling silver?  I'm guessing a newer model Parker because of the style of the clip, but don't know what pens other than the (semi-vintage) Parker 75s were done in the Ciselé finish.

As for me, so far today it's been the Violet Safari, B nib, still with (I think) Lamy Turquoise (got the bottle at an estate sale a while back and there was no label on it).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
