What pen(s) are you using today?

A Smug Dill

Hmm, I thought that each of these manufacturers’ housings were compatible only with their own nibs. But I don’t handle complexity well. 🙂 And I’ve been wrong before, once or twice (a day).

It's been a Herbin kind of day: so far, I've used (and finished and cleaned out) a green-hatched Conway Stewart 58 (J. Herbin Vert Empire), written a couple of pages with the Parker 61 Flighter (after diagnosing and successfully addressing a minor but annoying leak a couple of weeks ago in collaboration with the pen's restorer: still inked with J. Herbin Vert de Gris), and now am using the Onoto Heritage (J. Herbin Bleu Verrerie).

The last I'm using in a new notebook, a Nakabayashi Yu-Sari notebook in B5 size. I'd never bought a B5 notebook until last month, and didn't really have a good understanding of the size until I picked this one up in person in a store in NYC; I've used A4 for academic notetaking and writing because it's closest in format to the lined chemistry notebooks that had been my standby for decades (but which are horrible for FPs). So far, though, I think B5 might be even better for my purposes than A4. It's large enough to feel like a proper page to someone who's used to A4 (or 8.5 x 11), but it's just a little smaller (slightly under 7 x slightly under 10 inches), which means that if I'm taking notes while reading a PDF on my laptop, as I often am, the notebook and laptop together don't take up quite as much desk space. There also seems to be a wider selection of notebooks in B5 than in A4, overall. So... I think this is my new approach.

I love B5 notebooks, I agree that it’s a good size. Yu-Sari is an excellent paper as well.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of 30 currently inked pens:

Parker Duofold Centennial IM, RO Rose Gold Antiqua

Parker Duofold Lady needlepoint, MB Cool Grey

MontBlanc 1441 F, Monteverde Brown Sugar

Platinum PKB 2000, Platinum Cyclamen Pink

Waterman 52 EF, Herbin Bleu Pervenche

Still on the lookout for the Cranberry Flourish for you! I noticed SpeerBob has one in rollerball on eBay. You might want to message him and let him know you're interested in the fountain pen version in the event he comes across one. I've bought from him in the past and he's a very reputable seller.

I thought I saw one, but it was $90. Too much for a used True Writer in my opinion. I’ve bought many pens from Speerbob. It’s always good for those who have not, to read the positive comments.

Today I used a True Writer Northern Lights with M nib filled with Levenger Sugar Plum ink.

A Leonardo Momento Zero Grande with a steel 'elastic' nib.  I fell in love with the 'Girosole' patterned resin when I saw it a few years back and drove over to Shrewsbury specifically to buy one.  It came with a 1.1 stub nib that I didn't get on with, I exchanged it for a Leonardo elastic nib and now it's a perfect everyday writer.

Agreed, on both accounts.

Yesterday, I used my True Writer Origins inked with L'Artisan Pastellier's Vert Moyen Mousse to write Christmas cards and letters. I did have an issue with the pen earlier when I removed it from the case. The nib had somehow worked its way upwards from the section so that I was unable to push in the cartridge converter. Not sure how this happened since I've used the pen a few times before with no problems. My husband was able to push the nib back into the section and claims it is a screw-in but I felt like it was a friction fit. Anyway, problem solved, but have you ever had this happen?

Looking to buy a Delta Chatterley Stantuffo Fusion Star Cage.

Today it's been the sterling Ciselé Parker 75, F nib, still with Waterman Tender Purple (for the journal entry that didn't happen yesterday :( -- I just skipped yesterday morning because it didn't work out (two estate sales followed by coming home and having breakfast); and the Pelikan M120 Iconic Blue, M nib, still with Pelikan 4001 Blue Black.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

No, I haven’t. The nib unit does screw in. However there is a housing in it with the nib and feed friction fit.

That explains it but still not sure how it happened.

Still using the Radius Settimo with KWZ Old Gold for reading notes; for journaling and composition notes, it's the green-striated 1950s Faber-Castell 884 F with Rohrer & Klingner Verdigris.

Today's pen is a favourite. It's a black Kaweco Perkeo with a posting nib (customised by fpnibs). Currently filled with Kaweco Caramel.

Will work for pens...

A 1989 Montblanc 149.  Never could get on with it until I took it to the 2024 Northern Pen Show where John Sorowka diagnosed a slightly misaligned nib & feed.  A few minutes of fiddling and it's been a joy to use ever since.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
