What pen(s) are you using today?

I haven't used my Boucheron very much over the past 30 years so I'm trying to use it more now.  The ink is J Herbin Rue de la Verrerie.  The paper is Yamamoto Thin Bank Paper (48.2gsm) purchased directly 2 years ago.

Yesterday and today: lessons in the perils and wonders of small pens. I decided that my recently acquired Franklin-Christoph 03M will have to go back: it doesn't post as deeply as the Model 20, and unposted, I can't get it to agree with my hand. It's a shame.

But meanwhile, I had inked a cracked ice Conway Stewart 24, which doesn't post at all, and is smaller than I'd ordinarily think I would enjoy, but it's perfectly balanced and comfortable to use. It's filled with Herbin Gris Galet and has what I'd consider a very pleasant, moderately firm medium nib.

The CS 24 is one of my favorite pens.  It's just a little bit thicker than the standard CS pen of the post-war era, and a little bit heavier, making it more suitable to use unposted.  Mine does post, but I don't want to scuff up the black finish.  I guess that's going to be another that I'm going to need to ink up! Afterall, Gris Galet is just sitting on my shelf unused, and that's not fair, although I haven't put Earl Grey into anything in a while either.

A stunning pen. How does it handle? Is its weight cumbersome, or does it rest well balanced in the hand?

@Penguincollector Thanks!  I'm going back over there in a couple of hours (after I have lunch) because he was admitted overnight after having a CT scan done in the ER.  Of course he kept calling and texting me while I was driving, both yesterday evening and this morning....

Today's pen has been the 51 Signet, F? nib, still with vintage Quink Permanent Royal Blue; I brought the bottle with me just in case I had to refill, but then after going to an estate sale, where I got some vintage Waterman lever filler (might be an Ideal?) and what I think is a Sheaffer Touchdown pen & pencil set, decided to fill up the tank on the mini-van and then eat a late breakfast at home).

The CS discussion up thread had me thinking that I should ink my Dinkie for the first time.

@InkyProf I did get my CS24 out today as somehow there was an opening on my stand and filled it up with Earl Grey.  Such a great pairing for this pen which is a nice stubby medium.

We’re in sync: I ordered a small bottle of Earl Grey today, probably prompted by your mention of it earlier, although I’ve had it in my mental list for a little while. Now we need to know with what @Penguincollector is going to (I can’t believe I’m about to use this phrase) ink that Dinkie!

I couldn't come up with a way to ask that wasn't awkward.  I shan't say what I'll do with my Dinkies!

I’m using the Levenger True Writer Kyoto the 2nd with a Nemosine 1.1mm stub nib filled with a sample of De Atramentis Magenta Purple.

Hi Scribs.

The Boucheron has a wide gripping area that might make the pen feel cumbersome for someone with small hands.  Writing with it feels like writing with a  heavy Jun Lai 930 or a heavy Jinhao 9019.  The nib is a very smooth nail. I find it balances very nicely without posting, (which is possible because the inside of the cap has a plastic lining to protect the overlay).  Posting the Cap adds weight but doesn't hurt the balance or it's proportions because it posts very deeply, about 1/2 the length of the barrel making the pen only 1 in longer than it is uncapped.  The pen is about 6 inches long capped or posted and 5 inches unposted. When posted the balance point is exactly the end of the 2 5/8" cap.  Unposted the balance point is is exactly in the center of the pen.  Although heavier, it's the same size a a Sailor KOP, which has the same cap to barrel proportions and also balances at the end of the cap when posted.  A lot of work must have gone into the design to get the balance right. 😀

It turns out that the pen I was thinking of is not in fact a Dinkie, but a W-E Bantam in a celluloid that is similar to some of the CS pens. So I guess I inked the (bleep) pen (I’m eternally 12)‽

As beautiful as I think it is, it’s not for me. It’s too big. I admire the Edsons when I see them, though. If there was a pocket sized Edson, I would have every color.

Today I am going to Pen club. My pens that are coming with me: Wahl-Eversharp Bantam F, MB Bohème, A108 M, Jinhao 100 Moonman Flex, Cross Century I 10k gf F, and a Hocoro that I would like a pen turning friend to see if he could make me a handle that nicer than the stock ones.

I’m bringing pocket notebooks for the moms in the group to choose from if they wish.

So far today it's been the Pilot Plumix with the IM(?) nib, just refilled with Platinum Carbon Black.

Thank you @USG for the time you took answering my questions about your Boucheron. I now have a very clear idea of what the pen's like to handle! It is a very impressive pen. A tempting pen. Very tempting. But I'm trying desperately to become a better master of pen cravings and purchases . . .

It's been a while since I last posted which pens I've used, so long that I've completely lost track on them all. So I will start again, the pens I've used so far today have been the Montblanc Origin Classique, F, inked with Herbin Ambre de Birmanie, and a clear Jinhao Dadao, EF, inked with Lamy Crystal Obsidian. I might also later reach for my TWSBI Obsidian, EF, re-inked with Montblanc Winter Glow (the two work together well, and I've decided it might be an idea to start emptying the bottle, it's an old ink that I'd hate to see go off ).

Finally having some time off I've elected to make it urushi week...so my Namiki Capless Raden stripe and my Nakaya long writer in Aki Tamenuri have been inked up.  The Capless with Diamine Sunset orange and the Nakaya with Iroshizuku Kon Peki.

Today's been the Soennecken 222 Extra, silver and black, with Anderillium Cuttlefish Brown, a new to me ink that I now officially adore, and the Desiderata Pen Co. Chiaroscuro in black and blue-green ebonite, on the tail end of its fill of Lamy Turquoise.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
