What pen(s) are you using today?

@PennyTheDog A striking pen, and equally as striking is your handwriting. That Sailor lays down a nice crisp line that compliments your writing. Very nice.

 

@InkyProf Love the blue stripes on that Conklin, the nib also looks really fascinating.

 

My pens of the day are Montblanc Purdey, M (unfortunately), inked with Des Atramentis Wood Ink. There's nothing like the smell of freshly sawn wood, it's just a shame the aroma isn't as strong, nor as lasting as I would like. The second pen for today is my Nakaya Piccolo Writer, Aka-tamenuri, F, inked with Platinum Blue-Black.

  That’s a beautiful pen. The rings are still really vibrant. I really enjoy vintage Conklin nibs, they are elegant writers.

Thanks! This one is celluloid, although as with Duofolds, I think they did make this pen in hard rubber too, before transitioning to celluloid in 1926-ish. I don’t know if they had a red-orange hard rubber version specifically, but I’ve seen black with red ripple (giving a darker overall effect than, say, a red ripple Waterman).

Thank you - it’s my first. It seems like Conklins don’t get much attention (anymore?), but I’m currently smitten with them, and will be looking for a crescent-filler at some point too.

Today’s pen is the Kaweco Frosted Sport Blush Pitaya with EF nib filled with a cartridge of Diamine Oxblood ink. I’m using it because Kaweco brought back the Skyline Sport Pink that I ordered yesterday.

Looks like a good thread to return from hiatus, looking forward to seeing what y’all have been up to. @InkyProf that Conklin is really something. A pen with presence! Today I used a recently acquired Sailor Magellan tortoiseshell, M 14K nib with iroshizuku Yama-budo. But. This pen is from Nagasaki Matsuya, acquired from a seller in Japan. Cap ring and nib are engraved Matsuya rather than Sailor, some bespoke version I assume. Nib is sublime. Let a Dromgoole’s employee try it out recently. When the nib touched paper his eyes got wide, his mouth formed an “O”, and he said, “Oh, that nib”! Pretty much the same reaction I had when I first inked it. Efforting to get the whole story behind the pen, but whatever it is I got lucky with this one.

Thank you - it’s my first. It seems like Conklins don’t get much attention (anymore?), but I’m currently smitten with them, and will be looking for a crescent-filler at some point too.

  I just have the one Endura as well. Mine is a lapis ring top with a beautiful flex stub nib.  I bought it from Nik Pang, who is a professional calligrapher as well as a vintage pen seller at pen shows. I definitely want more. I haven’t tried a bad one yet. 
 

 

  As for who I am writing with today, it’s been very stormy, so I chose the pens with appropriate inks: a Jinhao 82 M inked with Diamine Overcast, and a Chinese Piston filler IF inked with shimmer version of Sailor Yurameku Itezora. I have to fill another vintage pen and a music nib for calligraphy so there’s another post incoming.

Welcome back! It's so often the nibs that really wow and woo us. It's always fun seeing others respond with surprise and astonishment when first putting a pen to paper, just as much fun as trying them ourselves. It's what I love about fountain pens.

It’s fun, isn’t it? I like pens that are hard for me to put down. And I love the unexpected surprises like this one. Or Kaweco. Those little pens punch 10 times above their weight, but who expected that the first time you tried one? I have a Sport piston filler I’ll never part with, it was actually yesterday’s choice. All the little gems keep you coming back for more. And more. And just one more. And we’ll, maybe those two there… 😄

The Sailor Magellan pens from the 1980s were nice writing pens; they were some special editions for some pen stores and they are not easy to find around now.

I don’t have the piston filler. But all the plastic Sport pens, and lots of AL pens called to me after I bought the Frosted Natural Coconut with 1.1mm stub. Then it was a buying spree of Kaweco pens. 
 

When I noticed what looks like Kaweco discontinuing the Frosted Sport made me buy the two I didn’t have while I could. Luckily that was before the price went up.
