Tomorrow must surely be a little more satisfying . . .

Thank you! It already is, thanks to a good night's sleep and the reliably enjoyable Parker 51 (Aerometric demi in plum, <F>, Waterman Mysterious Blue). A good reminder always to have one 51 filled and at the ready.

Yup, I'm getting a good night's sleep due to the Parker 51, too  -  ever since I gave it away.

I have a 51 F desk pen that I keep full of blue ink. Right now it’s Private Reserve American Blue. It’s nice to have at the ready.  Today I am using my Azure Vacumatic F, inked with vintage Quink Washable Royal Blue.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of 30 currently inked pens:

Sheaffer 100 Satin Blue M, Pelikan Moonstone/holographic mica

Parker T1, Dominant Industry Dominant Blue

MontBlanc 1441 F, Monteverde Brown Sugar

Platinum PKB 2000, Platinum Cyclamen Pink

Waterman 52 EF, Herbin Bleu Pervenche

a 51 F desk pen

It has escaped me until now that there are 51 desk pens! I've always wondered: do desk pens dry out more quickly than capped FPs? (I don't have one and haven't handled one, but I imagine, maybe falsely, that they would rest in their holders more loosely than in a cap with a clutch, and thus be more prone to dryout.)

How do I know you won't wave a magic wand at the pics, and I suddenly find myself without the pen?

I'm expecting one in Kuro-tamenuri probably by the end of the year . . .

It does dry out a bit on me if it’s almost empty, but if it likes the flow of the ink (mine prefers inks that lean towards the wet side, but not too much), it’s ready to go until the fill runs really low (like it’s just in the collector)- then I just put one drop of water on the feed and blot it- good to go. I always have water available at my desk for pens that need a jumpstart.

My desk is busy enough that I make a point of not keeping water on it, with the exception of a cup of coffee, tea, or water on my coaster (which sits in a spot that I’ve trained my arm to avoid), because I’m terrified of spills. But this does make me think that a small jar of water, with a lid, could be convenient!

This morning’s pen was the Montblanc 149, still with MB Toffee Brown, today on Fabriano paper, which I had stopped using for a while in favor of Midori notebooks. Wow, it’s rough. Feels like turning off the highway onto a dirt road. I have a couple more pads of this but probably won’t restock once they’re gone.

This is what I do- I keep a small bottle of distilled water in my ink cabinet. It looks like a contact lens solution bottle, can’t remember where I bought it, but there should be an equivalent on Amazon or somewhere you can buy reusable travel bottles.

Today's Pen ...... the same one I've been using daily since February 2nd when I bought it:

      Dryden Deluxe

Here on The PenNetwork I've found a couple of comments about Dryden:  that it is Chinese, and maybe German, and perhaps even American ???

I got a great deal (less than $20) and couldn't resist.  When I received it I got it loaded up with one of the supplied cartridges and got to writing.  And I've been incredibly impressed ever since.

It always writes as soon as nib touches paper, never any hesitation, never any "dry," never any skip.  I've been using two notebooks, each has 120gsm paper.

The writing feel is very very smooth.  The pen gets a daily "write" session, just a line or two in each notebook.  "Fantastic" is a word that gets a lot of use, and it definitely applies to this Dryden.  I am very impressed and happy.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
