So far today it's been the Violet Safari, B nib, still with Lamy Turquoise, for today's journal entry.

Not a lot of ink used today, as I've mostly been turning my study upside down, and also scouring the downstairs "library annex," looking for two books that aren't where they belong, and which aren't anywhere else, either, as far as I can tell.

But this morning, I used the Parker 51 Plum Demi (inked with... what's it inked with? Oh yeah: Waterman Mysterious Blue); the little Bayard mottled red hard rubber pen from the 20s (Herbin Perle Noire), which I've fallen back in like with; and the Esterbrook Relief Pen 3-S, which seems to be approaching the end of its fill of Waterman Intense Black. Maybe I'll see if I can finish it up as the sun sets.

What a stunning pen and beautiful box graphic!

The pen is the first of Monteverde’s Mountain pens. Maybe the box is part of the expense of the ink.

I have a real issue with committing to one pen

I don’t use just one pen often. Back in 2018 or 2019, I had an insert for Weekly plus Memo in a Travelers Notebook. I used a pen per quarter of the year.

Any other consistent use of pens has been a pen per page. My A5 page a day notebooks are full of color.

It was just lucky that the Winter Olympics were in Milano and Cortina. I got the Cortina pen last year. It felt fitting to use the pen during the run of the Olympics.

I've been obsessed with Conway Stewart's "Honey Noire" resin (this one's the "Classic Brown" I believe)... However, their use of bog standard JoWo nibs has put me off getting any (...till now, that is) :)

Today was our monthly calligraphy club meeting, so I brought along my Waterman 52 that Thomas Ang ground to a beautiful EF for me. I worked on some Spencerian using Herbin Bleu Pervenche. My note taking pen was a Jinhao 82 M inked with Diamine Overcast, both given to me by a pen friend, and I got to try a beautiful mother of pearl holder with a Mabie Todd nib.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of 20 currently inked pens:

Sheaffer 100 Satin Blue M, Pelikan Moonstone/holographic mica

Parker T1, Dominant Industry Dominant Blue

Pilot Custom 743 <FA>, Oblation Sitka Spruce

Platinum PKB 2000, Platinum Cyclamen Pink

Waterman 52 EF, Herbin Bleu Pervenche

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

Today it's a Lamy Lx Marron with a fine nib and Diamine Deep Dark Brown.

I like the colour of the ink, but it's wierd. On Rhodia it feathers horribly, yet is OK in my Clairefontaine A4 90gsm journal. I tried three different Rhodia books and pads... consistently bad.

I recall emailing Cult Pens when I bought the ink because my swatch feathered badly with the dip pen I used for that. They replied that it wasn't meant for dip pens. I stopped buying from Cult and the ink went to the back of the drawer until now.

Will work for pens...

Finished the Esterbrook Relief and replaced it, and then replaced its replacement. I started with a postwar gray-marbled Pelikan 100N with an undesignated 14k script nib that I thought was a medium, but filled with Robert Oster "Cities of America -- Chicago,"  it writes like a juicy <B> -- which shows off the ink well, but isn't want I was looking for. (Will this nib ever be what I'm looking for? That's a different question.) So I replaced it with an old-style M200, also gray-marbled, which currently houses a vintage 18c monotone logo nib that I think must have come from a first-generation old-style M600, before that pen was given a larger nib. Same ink. A very nice, semi-flex nib, which also shows the ink nicely -- a steely blue-green-gray that pretty well captures the look of Lake Michigan on a cloudy winter morning. Not a very well lubricated ink, but attractive!

With grading, my pens are getting more of a workout.  I have just inked the Leonardo Officina Italiana Momento Magico in "Pithecusa," a wonderful chayonant blue pen.  I inked it with Van Dieman's Pacific Ka Moana Nu ink, which is so shimmery.  Both pen and ink are new to me.  It's a great combination!

I also need to choose another pen and ink, but have not decided yet.

Using the Onoto Magna Plunger (Vintage) and a Conway Stewart 479.  I had Matthew Chen do a CI grind on the 479 and I'm loving it.  It was a pen that was one of my favorite looking CS pens, but it underperformed in writing as it was a juicy M - solid, but not a lot of character and could be a bit of a firehose comparatively.  Now it writes with a ton of character and is just a tad drier.

I like this ink but it dries very slowly often leading to smears...

Do you have another favorite ink in that color range?

So far today it's been the Ciselé sterling Parker 75, F nib, still with Waterman Tender Purple, for this morning's journal entry.

Is it weird that I think that purple ink looks good coming out of a silver pen?  Because with the 75 with the B nib I only ever used the MB Jimi Hendrix homage ink; and of course am now just kicking myself that I didn't get a second bottle of it before it went away, even at full retail price -- because of course now the price of it on eBay is through the roof!  :wallbash: And with the broad nib I was going through ink a lot faster....

Of course now trying to remember what ink(s) I've used in the Morrison ringtop with the sterling filigree overlay on it, and if I ever used purple ink in it....

ETA: Adding the translucent Pilot Plumix, IM(?) nib, still with Platinum Carbon Black.

Today’s pen is the Lamy Vista with the NASA blue Worm logo with a 1.1mm italic nib. I refilled it last night with Birmingham Lunar Dust ink.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺
    • Mercian
Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
