What pen(s) are you using today?

This morning, wrote a few pages with the Onoto 5601 (Waterman Brown) until it really and truly ran dry (which I confirmed by weighing it). The cleaning process, given the state of the seals (which remain finicky at best) was a nightmare; I really do think I need to have this pen re-repaired, but it'll be worth it, because proved to be a fabulous writer, once I got it filled and figured out its tricks. Not sure what I'll be using this afternoon.

You’re the one that made me think of pairing a nice brown with my vintage pens.  I couldn’t remember.

Sorry you’re having troubles with the seals, it’s frustrating.  I just ordered and installed my first o-rings as a replacement for cork in a 5601.  Seems to have improved performance significantly.

Thanks, @camelsuspicious. I'm curious if you filled the seal chamber completely with stacked o-rings, or if you had to use a spacer or packing material to keep the o-rings from shifting. (Gah, even the fact that I'm asking that question tells me that I'm probably going to be ordering some parts and tools and trying this myself, though maybe with cork at first, as I prefer to replace like with like when I can, and when it works.  I've now read the Marshall & Oldfield chapter three times and I think I finally "get it.")  And is there a straightforward way to tell from the symptoms whether weak or irregular filling is due to the plunger washer or the cork seal?

Sorry, wrong forum for those questions, I suppose. I like your Barock Jade! It's less green than I would have expected. I have a couple of their inks -- Marine, which I really like, and Kaviar, which I need to try again in a different pen.

Today I am writing with a cute modern Parker IM F from the Last Frontier series in the Submerge pattern. It is inked with Parker Penman Ruby that I added some blue holographic mica powder to.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of 20 currently inked pens:

Sheaffer 100 Satin Blue M, Pelikan Moonstone/holographic mica

Brute Force Designs Pequeño Ultraflex EF, Journalize Horsehead Nebula

Pilot Custom 743 <FA>, Oblation Sitka Spruce

Pilot Elite Ciselé <F>, Colorverse Dokdo

Platinum PKB 2000, Platinum Cyclamen Pink

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

I didn’t stack O-rings.  I used a little spacer that was in Binder’s site - Plastic model ABS tubes.  Cut to 3/8” and use one o-ring.  If you’ve got other questions - happy to answer.   I’m just getting going on Onoto’s but have two successful under my belt.   I can at least warn you against mistakes I made. (Like using cork seals)

So far today it's been the Dusty Rose Laidtone Duofold, F? nib, still with Waterman Serenity Blue.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I picked the correct day to also be in the Conway Stewart "today's pen club."

I decided my Conway Stewart Silver Duro needs some exercise, so beginning today it will receive several days of writing in my new "heavyweight paper" notebooks.

That is a really pretty Duro!  What do you have it inked up with today?

Thanks! I'll read up on RB's page too and will let you know if I've got questions. Appreciate the advice!

It’s much easier to follow his advice than what was in the Onoto repair book.  His repairs are more practical and don’t require specialized tools.

That's one handsome pen! Out of curiosity, is the silver grip section slippery at all?

Fortunately, no slip to the silver section.

I bought the Duro 19 years ago.  Then I began seeing pictures of that model with no silver, the front "grip" end was all resin.  So I asked Mary Burke about it, and she said there were two models:  some with silver grip, some without.  I can't remember all the other particulars and details she mentioned.

Anyway, I never had any slippy concerns or problems.

I was testing this today yesterday:

I'll assume that the tester pen is merely on loan to me, and offer to buy it off Chris now that it's a ‘known quantity’ to me, and I'm so supremely impressed by its performance.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.
