There was chatter here in the last week or so about cartoon pens. Here's what I have: a Lamy Safari with a bear on the clip, an extra fine nib and Lamy Sepia ink.

Lamy has offered some pens related to imaginary cartoon or movie themes, like Harry  Potter. Some of these editions have regional limited distribution, like the LAmy/Kuromi that can only be purchased in China.

A couple of Esterbrook dip pens, one with a 3314 nib (my favourite version of the Relief units) and the other a 9048.

2025 was a year of rapid accumulation; 2026, I hope, will be a year of deceleration (good luck with that) and also of moving pens along that don't move me; I'd like to have fewer pens by the end of the year than I had at the beginning.

To that end, having cleaned out five pens, I'm starting what I hope will be a more or less methodical project, which is to spend at least a few days with some pens and inks that are either brand new to me or which I haven't filled and/or written with beyond a quick test, pairing one modern and one vintage.

This week, I'm starting with a Wahl-Eversharp Modern Skyline in black and gold, with a <F> nib, filled with Taccia Koiame, a medium-dark orange ink I just received, and an Esterbrook Dollar Pen in red (with the later clip variant) with a 3550 sunburst nib, filled with Waterman Red, one of the Waterman inks I didn't own until recently.

So far, the Esterbrook (as expected) is a winner (as is the Waterman Red) while the Skyline remains a question mark: the nib, while firm (as expected) has more character than some stock modern fines, but the heavy cap makes for a pen that is backweighted when posted, and maybe a little small or light for me when unposted; we'll see. The Koiame is interesting; in this nib, which seems tuned moderate-to-dry, it's lighter than in the swatches I've seen (which I've come to expect), but it's still readable; if I were being fanciful I'd call it "burned cantaloupe."

Any pen that I still regard as questionable after having it in regular use for a week will get another chance, not necessarily right away, with a familiar ink, chosen because its properties suit what I learn about the pen from using it, unless the reason that it's questionable doesn't have to do with how it writes. And any questionable ink will also get another chance with a different pen.

And my blue pen of the day is the Parker x Kullock "51" aerometric in EF with Diamine Misty Blue.

I was inspired by @AmandaW to use one of my three Snoopy pens today. The pen is red with Snoopy as an artist. It is filled with Montblanc Corn Poppy Red ink.

There are Snoopy pens?  Do tell!

I remember reading Peanuts in the Sunday comics when I was a little kid, and not realizing that Snoopy was a DOG (most of the ones I saw were of him pretending to be the WWI flying ace, chasing the Red Baron).

Today, so far, it's been the 61 Flighter, newly refilled with J Herbin Vert Empire.  Not sure what the nib on it is, other than that some previous owner apparently tried to turn it into a fude nib -- and failed miserably (I was told that the nib was actually BENT in the process 😡) and so the next pen show I get to, I'll be going around to different repair people seeing if I can get it fixed....

ETA: Also used the Violet Safari SE, B nib, still with Lamy Turquoise.

This beauty today (Parker Duofold) with Pelikan 4001 Black. I will be changing to something a little more lubricated soon.

Well there were, back in 2015 when someone posted a review. I haven’t looked recently.

Started the morning with a Conway Stewart 15 and just wrote a letter to my wife with a Conway Stewart Churchill Heritage LE (Which she bought for me).

@Russprechtl -- I have a similar pen to that but mine is more of a yellow with black.  Not entirely sure of the size.

Ooh, I am Envious - I covet this pen!

I do not yet own one - because of the elevated price that they attract - but its brown colour pleases me.

Should I ever find one on sale for a non-Silly price, I would snap it up immediately!

I bought it as a gift set in 2022 from AliE as at price so not-silly I thought it highly unlikely to be a real Lamy... I liked the brown so much I ordered it anyway. And after a moment of deliberation installed the included bear...cos cute.

It was a long time and much use before I became convinced it's genuine.

Will work for pens...

That's an awesome pen. I've spotted a NOS locally last year, but while I's contemplating on it, it got snatched out of my hands! :( :wallbash:

I’m thinking the cute bear pen I bought is not genuine, but cute nonetheless. I tried to put a Lamy nib on it, and I didn’t fit.
