Need Help!!! for choosing flex pen

Over the last 4-5 years there are a number of modern superflex nibs that I know next to nothing about in I lucked into old superflex nibs some years ago. Easy full flex and a few wet noodles.

What I did have was an Ahab, which is a hard semi-flex effort superflex nib. Hard enough it's no fun after a couple days.

If one does the Pilot/Ahab Mod,.... of grinding two half moons, Dremmeled or round Swiss filed into the sides of the nib. The nib is suddenly a fun Easy Full Flex superflex nib.....and that will do the trick for you.

There might well be pens with more flex that are as cheap or cheaper than the Ahab.

I have a number of vintage superflex pens of the Easy Full Flex rate**....the one higher than Wet Noodle and some day I got to pull out that ahab again and have some fun with it.

** I have my own flex rate system, that is good enough for superflex noobies.................the more superflex pens you have the more the borders of my system blur.....but by that time you have your own experience.

Look up Ahab Mod, and you can see you can do it yourself.

Pendelton Brown has a couple of ways to make a nib superflex....in case you want to buy a fixed up Ahab nib.

I can have the nib ground down to an oblique stub by Gena Salorino and replace the feed with an FNF Ebonite feed to fix the railroading issues and I should have MY PERFECT PEN!!!!

Please do tell us how that goes, and if the railroading issue is really resolved.

Good luck!

I actually didn't have to spend the $400+ after all.
I bought a "Flexy-Tomahawk-Stub" nib unit from Penrealm and ground it to an "Oblique-Flexy-Tomahawk-Stub" myself with my Dremel, smoothed it with micromesh and VOILA!!
The perfect nib! (for me)
$55 vs $400+for a customized "Pilot Justus"....definitely the better option!
:D
