How to repair parker 45?

Frame 1

Recommended Posts

I need to disassemble the clip and cap top to remove scratches on the cap.

But I don't know how to disassemble it... :(((

Do you know how to disassemble?

And my 45's clutch ring is very dirty...

I don't know if it's corroded or the plating is peeling off.

Please tell me what it is and how to fix it.

Also, there are many scratches on the shell section.

I already wiped it with toothpaste and it almost gone, but it was matte.

How do I change it to glossy?

I'm still a newbie and don't have any professional tools.

Please tell me how to do it easily.

Finally, thanks in advance to those who responded!

Everyone has a favorite pen polishing abrasive.  For most hard rubber and celluloid work, you can quickly get "good" results with micro-mesh abrasives (looks like squares of sandpaper).  A typical set normally runs from 1500 t0 12,000 grit.

Below is two pictures of the SAME rod, under the same light.   One end of the hard rubber rod was polished with the micro-mesh starting at 1500, and progressing through 12,000 grit. The other end is with the raw flat-matte finish.

As for that ring, yes, the gold plating is falling off.  The only fix would be to do a 3-plate process to restore it.  If the ring is steel, you start with a copper plate, followed by a nickel plate (so the gold plating solution does not get contaminated) and finally your gold plate.  If the ring is brass, then you can go straight to nickel plating, followed by gold plating.  Possibly you could find a nearly-destroyed 45, which has a good ring and harvest it from another pen which cannot be redeemed.   Plating at home is not beyond the reach of a home pen restorer, but you need to be aware that gold plating solutions are expensive.

Here is a picture of a pen which had heavy brassing (loss of gold plating which left the brass exposed).  It was re-plated at home to regain it's original luster.

The first picture is AFTER plating, the second picture is BEFORE plating.

Clutch ring could be polished to make it look a bit better but it's corroded so a search on ebay might provide a cheap replacement. To remove the clip from the cap you first need to somehow remove the internal cap clutch then you can unscrew the screw that holds the cap top above the clip.

Here is some advice from Mr Ron Z.

This is an example at 75bp, but I think it can be applied to p45 as well.

I'm currently ordering tools from Ali for about US $ 10.

If successful, I will report the details of the tool.

It's good to try many methods and reach success together.

None of my Parker 45's unscrew from the outside. I had to use a piece of rubber to hold the outside cap top then unscrew the internal screw using a screwdriver.

Hello.

 That's good information!

What should the screwdriver use to approach the inner cap?

I had the information to use "arbor", but I didn't know how to remove the inner screw with a screwdriver.

And, how should I remove the inner clutch?

I gave up because I didn't know how to remove the inner clutch.
