Sorry the color is such a disappointment.  No / poor shading is indeed a bummer.  Maybe there's some pale ink you can mix it with to get a more interesting color! :)   Either way, thanks for the review!

Always happy to contribute.
I was disappointed with the color, however, my wife likes the color a LOT. So I'll gift her the bottle 😊
I was shocked because she never takes an interest in any of the inks I have or like.
She liked it for the reasons I don't like it... "it's not grey, it's not green...it's something in-between"

@Detman101 for the win! ;) :D

Do also try it on some different papers - I found Shirakashi very fussy about paper - but can definitely get a much browner, shadier result with less absorbent varieties.

(though I have to admit, I rather like the colour you're getting!)

Wow, really?
I tried swabbing some onto Rhodia with a q-tip...same "cement-green" color....bleh.
Will try Oxford Optik next...

HUZZAH!!!

Did initial review on Rhodia....only got "Cement Green".
Did a test on Oxford "Optik"....it shifted to almost BROWN!! :D
Still quite olive-green...but more brownish on Oxford paper.
I guess paper is the key to seeing the full potential of this ink.
The wife will enjoy it...lol

I used Rhodia 80g/m² paper for my review on this ink, on which you commented prior to getting your bottle, so a green-grey colour (instead of brown) on Rhodia paper should hardly be unexpected.

Indeed you are correct.
I was led astray by the photos posted by JulieParadise, and the video review by Mike Matteson.
Both with the amazing color shift to brown.
The ink writes sooooooo smoothly and fully and dries so fast too...
I'll keep it in the rotation, but for now I'm going to get my brown fill with "Stone Road of Gion" for the evening. :)

Thanks for the review @Detman101.

Mike uses Col-o-ring notepad. Ask @JulieParadise what paper she used.... that's definitely nod Rhodia :)

Try Midori/ or TR 68gr, you'll see quite a difference.

Or get some original Tomoe River, before it is finished... ;)

Awesome info, thank you! :)
I'll see about trying it with a few other papers sometime.
I have a bit of Clairefontaine somewhere in my collection of letters from others.
I'll try it on that paper later this week. :)

I'm going to experiment with mixing this ink with a lighter toned ink to see if I can get better color out of it.
The "Lichen-green" just hasn't grown on me.
Perhaps "Pelikan Edelstein - Aventurine" or "Montblanc - Irish Green"

We shall see...

Well… I like what I see. A murky chameleon, sounds good to me. And as ASD commented: I also see soft shading, not immediately evident, but definitely there. This is one of the Sailor Manyo inks I got last week - haven’t tried it yet, but will certainly fill an EDC pen with it next week.

Awesome, please let me know what you think of it.
I am always interested in seeing how others like the inks I've tried.
:)
The more I play with it...the more it's growing on me.

Hmmmm...this will work better in a stub nib that flows less ink.
Time to re-try this...

In my pursuit of mixed Greys...I have fallen for this ink!
Mixing it with "Stone Road of Gion" to dry it out a bit and lighten it up...will be my next venture tonight.
Tomorrow..."Stone Road of Shirakashi" !!!!
Friday...mixing it with a base of "Colorverse - Chesapeake Bay" to see what it yields...

Do you like it better?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).
