Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Diamine Pelham Blue

This is review #113 in my series.  Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: The color is a fairly ordinary blue that has slight green / turquoise undertones.  The zoom and absorbent paper are too pale.  The screenshot has the paper too white which makes the ink look too dark.  The scan has the best color, but might lean too green.  Cleaning was quick and easy.

And here is a screen of the final result, for those not interested in the video:

Thank you @LizEF for another fab review. Once again, I'm surprised at how different this ink looks in an EF nib, compared to the fat old stubs I tend to use, where it looks a little more teal and a little more grey.

It's an ink I like a great deal - I actually like all of the 'guitar' series, despite them being more saturated than my usual ink choices. They always behave beautifully for me (as do most Diamines to be fair) and are interesting colours with nice shading.

This sometimes happens - the color looks far more interesting in the swatches I see online, but the super-fine nib renders a rather boring, ordinary shade. :(

I wanted to like it, and may yet like it in a broader nib - perhaps my Lamy stub, but I won't be putting it in an EF again (except maybe my Lamy EF, which is pretty fat). :)

Really nice review, @LizEFthanks a lot. Like the zoom colour better

Thank you! :)  You're most welcome.  The shading in the zoom is lovely, but I find the color kinda dull.  I'm hoping it'll be more interesting in a broader nib, per @mizgeorge's experience.

There are only special inks, which pass the Ef test.... but I trust mizgeorge on that... :)

Of COURSE I have this ink...it's part of the Les Paul Guitar series after all!  I like the color.  I like all the Les Paul colors.  The only reason I'm not running to fill a pen with this right now is, I already have too many inked pens.  😅

Thanks for the review!

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I'm also really fond of Pelham Blue.  I must admit, though --I was surprised at how blue it looks in the zoom images.

I love this ink, but am afraid to put it in my favorite Parker 51’s, because it seems so saturated.

:D Episode 86 is where the pack first appears (with hints of it's magical ability).  In Episode 94, we get more insight into the pack's magical nature.  In Episodes 103, 108 - 110, we read of Makhabesh inside the pack....

So, yeah, he's got a full-length mirror-on-a-stand in the pack - or did...

Hmm.  No idea how it would do in a vintage pen, sorry.  I didn't get any sheen, and got enough shading that it didn't seem overly saturated to me, but that's about all I can say.

That’s probably more a fault of the pen than the ink. The ink collector that this pen is famous for seems to get balky with some inks. As a rule, I use Diamine inks exclusively with a couple of Waterman inks for my 61’s and Colorverse in some other pens.

This and Oxford Blue are two of my favorite blues.

I think I have to go back and read some of those older episodes more carefully; I missed that the pack was magical (I'm not surprised, mind you!).

I started reading these reviews because I usually write with fine and extra-fine nibs, and I was (and still am) really thankful to see such helpful ink reviews written with such a pen.  But I confess that I read them all now—even when I know before I read that I don't care a whit about the colour and will never want even a sample of the ink—because I want to find out what happens next to Quin & Makhabesh. :)

I've added a new link at the bottom of my reviews that takes you to an article on my web site with the whole Quin & Makhabesh story - so you can read it all in one place - just look at the last link in the original post. :)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
