In what conditions did Waterman Violet (Tender Purple) fade to pink?

I hung a piece of Walmart's most inexpensive copy paper, on which I wrote with it, it in a north-facing window, in a mountainous part of Old Dixie, for this fade test.  The scans were mostly posted within a couple days of being made.

Since I last posted, I have tried Noodler's Purple Mountains Majesty and Private Reserve Ebony Purple. I like both very, very much. PMM is a little bit redder than Lamy Dark Violet, and, in a slightly dryer pen, would probably show excellent shading. It has a matte opacity that reminds me a bit of Poussiere de Lune, but it's not as delicate.

Private Reserve Ebony Purple is blacker than my black inks (e.g., Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black), while at the same time allowing the tiniest hint of purple to be visible through the black. I absolutely love it

I've bought bottles or testers for a few purples/violets but never liked one enough to try it a second time. Shigure I might try again as everyone seems to like it.

Lamy Dark Lilac, to the point where I'm reluctant to use it because I like it too much.

PR Plum.

I keep a bottle of Violette Pensée for the few students I have that use fountain pens, and have a 51 desk pen filled with it.

Sheaffer Lavender.

What if one day you open it and discover SITB? Or your tastes change and you discover that your new love is in green? Use it while you have it and love it, and appreciate it at its fullest! (I, of course, say this while the rest of my small sample rests unused because I'm saving it for some future special occasion.)

That is a very nice colour. A pity it is so expensive to get hold of now.

A couple days ago I received a wet writing Parker 45 with a 12k or 14k (I forget which) fine nib and inked it with Barossa Grape today. It looks really good - for me, it's a top shelf dark purple ink and definitely not weak. I prefer the extra fine Parker 45 nib - about the same line width as a Japanese fine - but I'll take this result, for now. I have a wet XF P45 that's waiting in the wings for Barossa Grape, as soon as I finish what it's currently inked with. If it works well with that P45 XF then I will buy a bottle.

I still haven't found the right pen for Scabiosa and I had put it aside for a while - moreover I have so many pens inked right now. But now I'm inspired by @amberleadavis's recently posted sample picture and sometime soon I'll put a cheap steel Chinese 1.1mm nib in a cheap Jinhao (992 is the model, I think) and give it a try with Scabiosa (I don't really care much if the iron gall ink corrodes that nib, if it does). Other than Japanese fine-sized nibs I really like writing with smaller italics in everyday use and, while that Chinese 1.1 is still too wide for me for everyday use, I'd like to give it my first try at nib grinding to get it thinner and sharper.

:). So glad to inspire!  Also, I am happy to see that these color collections are helpful.  I spent several hours last month reuploading photos to the new server and updating the threads.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Ha ha! Yes! I know what you mean!

I also have many many samples that I have promised to fill up on, so I can fill them up with inks and send them on their merry way.  I'm in sample purgatory for the next while.

If I found SITB, inguess I'd have to be happy I *didn't* use it and spread it out to the rest of the collection!

Cuurent MB purple (Amethyst)

Seeking a Parker Duofold Centennial cap top medallion/cover/decal.
My Mosaic Black Centennial MK2 lost it (used to have silver color decal).

Preferably MK2. MK3 or MK1 is also OK as long as it fits.
Preferably EU.

This thread is timely. I just starting looking for purple inks. I just ordered J. Herbin 1798 Amethyste de L'Oural.

We'll see how it goes, but I'll follow this thread for more ideas.

Timely indeed!
I’ve been looking for a purple ink to match the purple in the logo of my business and the Herbin Amethyste de L'Oural was close enough to try, as I’ve always enjoyed using Herbin inks. It’s an absolute joy! The subtle shimmer adds an elegant je ne sais quoi and writes beautifully on the G Lalo verge paper I like. Brilliant!

I like G Lalo Verge paper for itself, both the texture and the color, but what nib are you using?  My fountain pens tend to bump along on that paper.

J Herbin Poussiere de Lune

This has been mentioned before, of course.  I am not a big purple user, but I really like this one!

Kaweco Summer Purple

Would you mind reviewing that ink?

I did a search on Kaweco inks reviews, in the forum, and there was no answer.

Now that I know who wrote the review, I can find it.

Thank  you.

I am not fond of bright violets, least of all the ones that lean to the blue side (and I prefer my blues to lean green rather than violet - Diamine Oxford Blue is my limit in the violet direction). The two inks I regularly use that might fall into the violet category are Noodlers Purple Wampum, a "serious" violet, and Noodlers Nightshade, violet/brown/eggplant.... The other violet I have sampled that I would consider using is Private Reserve Ebony Purple, but I've never sprung for a bottle.

Ooh, my favorite?  That's a toughie -- I don't think I could limit myself to just one.

So, in no particular order:

vintage Quink Permanent Violet, Lamy Dark Lilac, Noodler's Kung Te Cheng (although that's more indigo with purple undertones), Purple Heart and North African Violet, Edelstein Amethyst LE, Iroshizuku Murasaki Shikibu and Yama-budo, and KWZI IG Violet #3 and IG Gummiberry (still haven't made up my mind about IG Violet #2).  There are other ones I have, but those are probably the top ones.

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

This is hilarious!
