Celebrate with Me!

I don't have real life folk who will appreciate this nearly enough, so please join me in celebrating the kindness and generosity of @A Smug Dill1!  Here are 72 :yikes: ink samples just received (here in the Rocky Mountains) all the way from Australia!

large.72InkSamples.jpg.249b954c1bad3df8f6072857e1169425.jpg

That's nearly a year of Extra Fine Nib Ink Reviews, with enough left over to play in other pens.  Every ink is new to me, so no repeats.  And he could teach Goulet Pens how to package inks!  Only 2 minor leaks (apparently while the package was upside down because only caps had ink on them, and no more than .2mL lost from each vial).  I've been doing a happy dance ever since the mailman knocked on my door! :bunny01::D

Since joining this community, I've been amazed at the generosity of FP users.  FP people are the best kind of people.  I've tried to be no less generous than those around me, when opportunity and resources allowed, and hope I've come close.  I thought we could use this thread to celebrate the generosity of our community.  To that end, please share your experiences with generous fellow FP-users.  No need to name names, if you don't wish, just share experiences and let the gratitude make us all a little happier. :D

PS: My "next ink" poll will be updated soon with 72 more options! :yikes:

1I wouldn't normally name names, but allow "karma" or God or whatever you wish to believe, to reward good deeds, but we've discussed this openly already, so it's no secret, so I'll rely on both...

WOW!  Looks as if you're going to be busy!

And kudos to A Smug Dill for sending all the samples out to you.  (I'm also continually humbled by the kindness and generosity of the pen community.)

Years ago, another FPNer donated ink samples for me to test.  It took me about a year, but what fun it was!  We look forward to seeing these in action!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Poll now updated with new options!  I kept the votes on the inks I haven't reviewed yet, but purged the results of the inks I've already reviewed.  Looks like the unpopular inks can be more broadly dispersed now.

NOTE: Variants of Sailor inks (such as Kobe inks) are listed under "Sailor ...".

How exciting - and what a lovely thing to do. Top bloke, and deserves to be very warmly thanked by all of us that appreciate the reviews so much as well.

Of course, this could end up being horribly expensive... :)

Because I know there are inks in there that I don't have, and will almost certainly want...  ;)

😃

I'm so glad the package got there relatively quickly, unmolested by Customs, and largely undamaged. As I've mentioned, the sealing method is a little unusual (these days) for non-commercial parcels; and I think an X-ray scan of the contents may have looked a bit odd. 🤔

You captured the original layout in a photo! That preserves a clue to the question I asked you, hehe!

So close, yet so far. 😒  Just as well I ‘overfilled’ each nominally 1.8ml vial by at least 0.2ml; I didn't want too much air in it 😷  so as to minimise the potential for gaseous expansion during flight🎈 and also evaporation and/or oxidisation of iron-gall components in storage. The lidded cardboard case should provide pretty good shielding from light. 🕶️

Oh, I see.  Yes, indeed, but we'll spread it out over nearly a year, so the pain shouldn't be too bad.

Oh, yes, I figured it out - even before I noticed that you cleverly gave me the answer on the packing slip!  I was far too happy to do more than read your note at the top.  Then I figured it out and went to get the paper to confirm my suspicions and rolled my eyes at myself.

Bravo! 👏🏼  Although, to be honest, I included that packing slip with that extra column primarily for US Customs; if they bothered to unseal the parcel, I wanted them to encounter some sort of manifest and plausible explanation for the contents (and postal authorities do ask about that particular attribute, on the customs declaration form), before they start undoing the wraps and opening some of the vials for closer inspection, hehe! I only thought to give you the ‘challenge’ long after that ship has sailed parcel was sealed and lodged with the post office. You already got the manifest digitally in advance.

The positioning of the vials in the grid was actually the real ‘clue’ — or at least that was a reflection of how I was thinking💭 when I packed the box.

Yes, it was the 61x inks that flipped the switch in my brain: "Huh.  This is geographic." :D

Sounds like you enjoyed the A-ha! moment. ;)

My wife asked me what I was doing just now on the computer, so I mentioned the puzzle; she likes puzzles. She asked me if one needed to know a lot about inks to solve it, and I said no, although it turned out the answer should have been, “maybe.” I showed my wife the manifest, and also the photo you took of the vial placements, and she said after a while, “I thought you were just putting Van Dieman's Ink in the naughty corner for their customer service.”

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
