Syringe filling of cartridges

As for me, I have three pens that are too small for cartridges (Schon DSGN Pocket 6, Franklin-Christoph Pocket 66, and Parker Duofold Demi (modern)) so I am forced to use cartridges. I prefer to re-load a single cartridge with ink of my choice until the nipple hole wears out, rather than throwing them away as single-use objects.

I have a Pocket 6 and a small FC that both work fine with a Kaweco squeeze (bulb) converter - just not the plunger version. Might be worth a try?

. So, where do you non-medical people obtain your syringes (and I'm in Canada if that makes a difference)?

I have walked to the back of the pharmacy and told them it's for fountain pen filling, and they have on 2 occasions sold me a handful.

A few times a friendly GP was able to hand me some.

Feed store. Non prescription syringes in all kinds of sizes for dosing up your animals.

Thanks for the tip. I have never seen that converter before. I bought a couple of the smallest plunger type because I thought that was the smallest converter around. Glad to be educated.

Just to follow up on my question about obtaining ink syringes.

@LizEF - I looked up those three products on Amazon.ca thanks. I couldn't find the Shintop syringes you referenced. The 5 pack of ink syringes that are $6.99 US on Amazon.com are $19.90 Cdn on Amazon.ca - some difference, must be the exchange rate (NOT!). The pipettes were a reasonable price given the current exchange rate.

@torstar - As I said in my original post, I tried three different pharmacies and came away with one syringe - granted it was free - but it was no better than the one I had in terms of end size.

And the winner is; @brokenclay with the feed store suggestion. As it happens there are two of them not that far from where I live. At the first store I was able to buy a 1cc syringe and five 18 Ga x 1" needles for under $5. At the second store the woman I was talking to gave me a 20 Ga x 1/2" needle no charge.

I may still try to get some blunt needles or grind the sharp ends on the ones I have to be blunt but for now I am good to go.

Thanks again for the help that's available on this site, it is truly much appreciated.

Love it!

I'm glad you found some syringes.

And when that one cartridge becomes unusable I become very sad.

Thats when you have someone in pen repair put a PVC sac on your pen's converter nipple. Where there's a will there's a way!

Amazon.  I don't know exactly what Amazon.ca has in comparison to Amazon.com, but here are some items from Amazon.com that work:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074M4RB86/

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LLFVQVV/

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EWQZMUU/

That last is mini pipettes which are small enough to fit into the opening of a standard international cartridge / converter.  It will take multiple fills of the pipette to completely fill the cartridge/converter, but I still find them more convenient than a syringe.

What is the second one?  The "Fountain Pen Ink Syringe Filler, Spring Converter with Removable Blunt Needle Tip"?  What are the advantages and disadvantages compared to a syringe with blunt needle?

Fountain Pens: Pelikan Souveran M805, Pelikan Petrol-Marble M205, Santini Libra Cumberland, Waterman Expert II, Waterman Phileas, Waterman Kultur, Stipula Splash, Sheaffer Sagaris, Sheaffer Prelude, Osmiroid 65

It's just a blunt-tip syringe with a spring to help it suck up the ink - like a TWSBI Go.  But it's also a standard international converter, so you can take the needle off and install it in your pen.  I figure you can use it in place of a syringe, or in place of a cartridge.  Whatever floats your boat. :)

NOTE: I don't own these, have never seen them in real life.  They just popped up as related items on Amazon, and I thought it looked convenient, with the spring.  I'll probably order some next time I buy something from Amazon, but that could be months away.

syringes are available here without prescription in the Pharmacy...

at any rate, the answer to the OP's (unnecessary) concern about wanting a dry syringe when filling a cartridge with ink, is obviously have more than one syringe...

btw it's a lifetime I'm using ordinary metered 2.5 ml syringes, never had a blunt tip one... (never injected myself with ink either)

Just another thank you, I ordered three of them and they arrived yesterday. I tried them in two of the three pens that are not currently filled (the pocket 66 and the pocket 6) and it seemed to fit quite snugly and well. I didn't try to fill the pens, that's going to have to wait a bit, I only just emptied one of them. I hope it fits the Parker as well.
