Help with delta lever filler

I just don’t get modern pen design! Can anyone help me understand how to get that brass tube out of the section so that I can change the sac? Is that brass tube even supposed to be there? It seems glued in. It was hard enough to open this pen up and now there’s a brass tube in my way, lol. Pics attached . Thanks so much!

@siamackzOdd stuff Delta did with their lever-fillers... known issue. Here are some old threads.

I have not seen these metal tubes except in their c/c pens. Please let us know how this is working out. I have a Delta lever pen too. I have not serviced it bit now I am curious because one day I will have to too!

Thanks for sharing! I had seen those threads and the pen in the first one looks like what it should - without the brass tube so one can access the nipple and change the sac (unlike the one I am repairing which doesn’t allow for the sac to be changed easy). I suspect it’s a repair

@siamackzIs this the Delta 20th Anniversary lever-filler pen? What does the nib say? If it is, yellow gold 18k nib imprint should have “20” on It. I don’t know the innards of this pen, but the metal tube looks really unnecessary. I’ve never seen it like this. It looks like the metal tube just clamps the sac in. If that’s the case, I would imagine that with some care and force it will come off. After all, there is just rubber between the metal tube and the nipple. Strange.

Yes it is the 20th anni pen. I think the brass pipe is holding a crack together though

@siamackzAny luck? I found this thread that @Michael R.was having trouble getting the section off too. Hope that he will see this post and tell us if this tube was part of the original design.

I had a look at my Delta Segovia lever filler. While I didn’t try to disassemble, I don’t believe there is a metal tube in there. The pen balances when I hold it at mid point of the barrel (uncapped). This would not have been possible with a metal tube in the front.

Thanks so much for helping! And yes I finally realized it must be a bad repair job and so I simply cut off the brass ring to the right length and was able to replace the sac. Pics attached. Thanks so much for all your help!

@siamackzI was only trying to help, but I didn't really manage anything. You found a solution yourself, congratulations! It's a bit sad to see such a beautiful pen with this terrible and unprofessional treatment of metal tube. If it were my pen, I would have the urge of having a new section made. This tube is just too painful to look at. At least you don't see it from outside.

@como & @siamackz:

sorry for the late reply!

I had to send my Delta to their service to replace the sac because I could not open it. I was far more cautious about heating and opening pens back then.

So I checked it again and maybe those quick and dirty pictures will help:

The section, sac nipple look "normal"; it seams to be part of the section like you would expect. But as you can see there is a thing metal (brass?) tube supporting the barrel and section-seat.

To me it appears that this original metal tube came loose on your pen.

Cheers

Michael

If you have ever driven an Italian car you may know 😉

Thanks so much, Michael. It seems that the brass tube was glued to the inner section on the pen I worked with. I wonder what the function of the brass tube is because when I removed it the inside of the barrel was metal anyway. Thanks for the pics though!
