Welcome to FPN from an Arkansan (who is not a Razorback fan!). Be down Texas way on the 20th on the way to old Mexico. Hope you enjoy the FPN forum, lots to be learned here! I like that you wrote your Post, seems like posting on FPN sometimes takes away from fountain pen time!!

Hi Jim and welcome from another Texan in Dallas.

You'll like it here, lots of freindly folk.

There is a pen group in Austin that meets failry regular. They post the dates on the board.

Put September 28/29th on your calender. It's the dates of the Dallas Pen Show. It will be held at the Holiday Inn Select, Richardson, TX. It's between Arapaho and Campbell on Hwy 75, on the west side. Lot's of new and vintage pens to buy, sell, trade or jsut fondle.

It is worth the drive. Really. And it's a lot cheaper than going to a show in Chicago, Boston, New York, San Francisco, etc. etc. etc. Not to mention that Papasita's and Papadeaux are right down the road, so you definitely will not starve to death for want of TexMex or Cajun food.

Welcome from another Dallasite! We always need more Texans.

Bill -- I didn't realize you were that close! I used to live @ I-30 and Beltline (south of I-30), which is technically Garland, but we had a Mesquite phone number.

We are up on top of the hill on the Mesquite (south) side of the intersection. Keeps us out of the Duck Creek floods, but of course, being the high point on this side of the county, we get lightning strikes somewhere nearby with almost every thunderstorm. I've lost track of the number of trees up here in thirty years that I've seen with the bark blown off. Suckers are LOUD when the sap explodes into steam.

You must live very close to where I used to live. To be very precise, I lived about 1/2 block from Toler Elementary (I could walk out of my house and see it down the street). I used to walk past Duck Creek to go fishing in some stock ponds that were a little past the Creek. Of course, that was long before they cleaned it up. That's funny. I knew you were not far from Dallas, but I never realized that you were in my old stompin' grounds. I'm only down the road now 'cause I live in Lake Highlands. Well, "howdy neighbor!"

Welcome to FPN.

Before you judge someone walk a mile in their shoes. Then if you still judge them you will have a headstart and they will be barefoot.

Not sure if I'll be enough of an FP addict by late September to make the trip up to Dallas, but thanks for the info. Just got my EF nib black Lamy Safara today, with Lamy's blue ink, two converters and an extra converter for my Phileas. Ordered late Monday afternoon from pencity.com; that's pretty snappy service!

I really like the EF nib. Smooth writing with nice even coverage.

Grabbed a Sensa Meridien off of overstock.com today. They're $30-$33 depending on the model and standard shipping was less than $3 too!

Trust me (and the rest of us) you'll be an addict by the time the Dallas Show rolls around.

Don't try and fight it. Just put the show on the calender and show up.

It's one of the 12 steps.

Welcome to FPN. The Dallas Pen Show is one of the twelve steps to a much smaller bank account. Bought a couple of pens last year.

Hey Zapped!

I'm part of the group in Austin. We call ourselves Austin Fountain Pen Society.

We have been in existence for about a year. We're a small group. Have had

up to nine members. Everyone's schedules were getting crazy during the

summer so we have taken a bit of a breather from scheduled meetings.

Perhaps we will start meeting again in the fall. Keep an eye on FPN for

meeting notices.

It's one of the most important steps!
