Lamy Safari 3D-Model

As exercise for a CAD software in 2018 I created a 3D-model of a Safari fountain pen. It's not perfect, but it was a fun thing to do.

The model will be made public domain some time in the future.

Here's a sneak preview of the model. I'll have to do some final work on the nib before it's ready. Each part can be places separately, like a real pen. And I'll convert it to a broadly used format.

Is this a program that can make Safari pens in 3D printers?

Basicly all CAD-Programms can produce models that can be printed. This model isn't meant to be printed though. It's just for renderings. You won't get a working pen out of this. I actually build in some flaws so it would not be a template for fakes.

I had it 3D-printed once though. As a 2:1 cut-open-model of a Lamy Safari pen. I'll post a picture.

Don't be too harsh on yourself. Technology has always been faster than us. 😅

As promised a 3D-print of this model. It's in 2:1 scale and was made on a powder printer. Quite brittle, that's why I made a base out of filament for it to secure it. Had this made when I had the opportunities for some free prints in 2018. 😁

Yet another teaser. Showing the main body parts in an animation. Even tough it looks like the barrel screws on it is fake threading. I hadn't have the right tools to measure everything back then and I did not intented to destroy a pen for that. That's why some parts are a little bit crude and the fit isn't 100%. But for digital purposes it should suffice. The complete model will be set free soon.

Is the pen pink and the clip mauve? I love those colors, I hope Lamy will make a mauve Safari soon.

Is it fair for an intelligent and family oriented mammal to be separated from his/her family and spend his/her life starved in a concrete jail?

I can give this pen any colour I want. 😉

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
