StandardGraph Mallow Red / Malvenrot

I thought I would provide reviews of some of my collection of inks from StandardGraph, the German brand. Visvamitra has already reviewed this ink a few years ago, but I thought an additional perspective was useful because I use fine-to-medium nibs, not big broad ones, and because I am using one of the more recent standard ink review forms.

What can I say? I like this ink a lot and have used it for headings and emphasis for many years. It dries fast and doesn't smear, which matters a lot to me as a left-hander. It is not that saturated, but it has a raspberry-cherry tone that I rather like, not the garishness of a real fire-engine or flame red.

I don't have good colour comparators, so I was reduced to rummaging around for a mini-sized screwdriver to dip into a very, very old bottle of Quink that I think I liberated from my parents 30 years ago! (Note to self, don't ink all your pens all the time.)

Beware, though, Mallow Red does have a fair bit of show-through even on good paper (see second pic, the other side of a page from a Moleskeine notebook).

It is a bit hard to see in the available light, but it goes perfectly with the dark red barrel of the Parker Vector I have used for this ink ever since buying it fifteen years ago. At EUR4.50 (admittedly in 2005), I think this ink was very good value.

Thanks for the review!  You're right, additional reviews are always helpful. :) I probably won't look into getting a sample as it doesn't appear to be carried by any of my usual retailers, but I still enjoy learning about it.

Thanks for this review.

Whether or not Moleskine is and/or can be regarded as a good paper, almost every ink I've ever used on it yields a remarkable amount of show-through. But Standardgraph inks (as well as Moleskine paper) are two things I can still recommend.
