Pilot script nib

Recommended Posts

I recently got a Pilot Elite FP from ebay mainly because I was curious about its 18k nib which is a Script. Included in the seller's description: "Some Pilot pens came in 5 different nib types, Posting, Manifold, Course, Script and Soft. This pen has a Script nib, so it is for script (cursive) writing. The nib has a bit of spring to it, but not enough to call it flexible. " It writes somewhat similar to a Namiki Falcon F nib but the two nibs don't look the same. I was wondering if anyone has this kind of nib to share his/her experience with it. Or if anyone knows more about this nib and the other types mentioned.

Hi.

I do not know your pen and the nib selection did vary with the time period. Pilot made MUSIC nibs for many of their offerings too.

SCRIPT nibs, as I understand, were sort of a reverse italic nib. Please do not ask me to describe this as it is beyond me.

I think you should just be satisfied it is a great writer.

My Pilot Elite has a short barrel. When I write with my Script nib, I also see a fine line.

From Russell's description, I understand that the Posting nib is an extra fine nib:

I expect the Manifold nib would be made of thick stiff metal. I wonder what a Course nib is ?

I have this pen in white purchased from Russ a couple of months ago. Not a nail exactly I wouldn't call it springy either especially compared to a Namiki Falcon or even a Pilot Custom 74 soft nib. But it certainly isn't the stiff sort of nib that comes on a Sailor. I've only tried Waterman Blue-Black in it but the double vent gives this Elite incredible flow. And it is excellent for cursive writing.

Thanks to all your replies! :)

I also got the Pilot Elite from Russ! Blorgy, thanks for the link! Interesting to know about the Posting nib. I guess the Soft would be semi-flexible nibs such as the Falcon? Maybe I should check Russ' items every now and then just to find out more about the other nibs. :)

Here is a manifold nib in a Pilot Super Elite: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=130119651817

I believe I can read "Manifold" on the nib of this Pilot Super200 :

COARSE nibs were similar to BROAD nibs.

POSTING nibs are stiff and used for writing throough carbon copies.

MANIFOLD nibs come in a variety of descriptions. I've had a few that were reasonably flexible and other that were stiff as nails.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
