Summit pens: a newcomer

Summit pens

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody. I am new to the forum, so I will introduce myself.

I like fountain pens since I was presented a Parker 51, back in 1969. Although I am not a one-brand-man, and although I like both modern and vintage fountain pens, I have recently developed a special interest in Summit pens, made by Lang Pen co. Ltd in Liverpool between 1926 and 1954.

Although they are excellent fouintain pens, they are not very well known amongst enthusiasts.

Glad to be here!

Hello summitpens.  Welcome to the community. It's great to have you with us.

If you haven't done so already may I suggest a visit to the 'Specialist Brands' fora.

I have a nice little "Savoy", sitting quietly somewhere here. I'm sure your special interest and knowledge of Summit, Lang, Curzon's etc will be much appreciated.

The period you mention seems to be a very complicated era in 'British' pen manufacturing and one I personally find fascinating also.

Hope to see you there.

Cheers, G

Hello, and thank you for the link: actually, that overview is the first edition of my work. Deb was kind enough as to comment on it. Here is a link to the updated version: https://www.fountainpen.it/File:Summit_ ... erview.pdf

Hello! I would not call myself an expert, but surely I like those pens and think they deserve better recognition. Nice to meet you.

Hello, and thank you. I am afraid I was not able to find your post about that Savoy pen: may I know the relevant link?

TIA!

My apologies summitpens. The (here) I referred to was my house!😊

I've been reading from your publication and really enjoying the comprehensive collection of Summit documents, patents and advertising material. What a remarkable project! It's certainly had the desired effect on me. The pens are magnificent!

I'm actually holding my British "Savoy" Made now! All I can do is describe it.

It may well be one of the 'Frankenpens" you mention because it has a Conway Stewart Lever, no clip, a single cap band, (copper? or dirty gold!) and a sort of 'hatching' ribbon, pattern of gold and burgundy colour. A colour I have seen many times on other vintage UK pens.

My plan was to post pics of it after it has been lovingly restored but my two "Onoto, 3000's" are next in the queue!

Lovely to meet you and I will be sure to share more info as restoration proceeds.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures of the restored pen, as and when you can. Just remember that Lang Pen Co. Ltd also produced for Conway Stewart and that towards the end of their enterprise adventure they tried to maximize their revenues, also by selling pens assembled from available parts. Always very good quality pens, but sometimes with a few "odd" details.

I quite understand the strategy. It must have felt like a good idea at the time!

Not caring about the historian's headaches to come!

I have a couple of Conway Stewarts but, of them, the 475 is a particular favourite.

Hope we chat again later Summitpens

I'm signing off... just realised it's 4:57 am here in New Zealand and I lost all track of time!!😴

Cheers, Gary

Hello and welcome to this friendly corner of the fountain pen universe from a pen user in San Diego. There is such a wealth of information for you to discover here. Write On!

Hi!

i just acquired this pen you might be interested in.

Do you think it’s a Curzon / Lang / Summit piece?

 The stamp says:

Hi everyone.

I've just acquired a Summit pen (in fantastic condition) and am wondering if there's a Mk3 S100 Cadet?

Mine looks identical to the image of the Mk2, but the stamping near the thread says Summit Cadet S100, with Made in England on the next line. The pdf document from a few years ago makes no mention of the word 'Cadet' in the stamping, but is there variance on that - and this is a Mk2, or does a Mk3 exist?

Thanks for any further info anyone can provide 🙂
