Diamine 1864 Blue Black

Diamine 1864 Blue Black (part of the 1864 series in the triangular wedge bottle)

Flow: as with most Diamine inks, very wet

Bleed/feather: some on cheap paper as the ink is very wet

Saturation: high

Color: this is probably the darkest BB I've seen out of the bottle (Diamine Registrar's, KWZ BB, etc. will dry to this color after many days/weeks); very deep blue black with green/cool tones if diluted or spread

Shading: possible if using a stub nib

Water Resistance: as with most Diamine inks, virtually none

I came across this ink a few weeks ago.  I had some in a Goulet sample vile, and enjoyed the ink so much that I purchased two bottles.  Works very well in my Sailor 1911 Large pens, Fine and Medium Fine nibs. Love the dark color, quite saturated. Satisfied consumer!

I've never had any problems with IG inks. I've never put them in expensive pens though. I've never left any of the strong IGs like Registrar's in a pen for very long though. I do like the 1864 when I don't want to use an IG.

Think of all the office that had to use Iron gall ink up till 50s... That's quite a bit of vintage pens :)

But I can understand your hesitance. One has to do what feels right to them :)

Definitely puts the black in blue-black. I have two other BBs in my rotation, Stipula Dark Blue, my favorite color-wise, and Kana-cho Midnight, for the green sheen, but 1864 is my EDC by default because it's in a snap cap I carry every day.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

its a nice blue-black but the big downside for me is its not waterproof or lightfast.

i just cant see the point of writing anything using ink that is not permanent.
