Safari Colours 2021

I’ve been wanting a Terra Red for a long time now. This is exciting! I remember seeing the displays in stationary stores in Constance, Germany, in the early 80s but was into the Parker 25 then. The nibs in those early models were pretty scratchy IIRC. I did have the chance to buy a NOS version some time ago but in person the color looked a bit drab. But now, all brand new, I’m super excited!

 

The brown 2000 with a brown clip? That’s pretty amazing, too.

A brown 2000? Is that for real? I feel like they could've chosen a much more interesting color. I'll still buy it if it's real, but a color like red would've been nicer.

I would like to see a vintage Terra and Savanna next to these newest editions.

The new colors seem lighter to me.

On one hand I agree with you but I think brown makes sense because I am guessing LAMY sees the 2k as their ultra-professional pen and bright colors do not go with the traditional conservative view of work. Look at all the special editions, none of them are flashy. Even the SE is a blue so dark it is black most of the time in pictures.

I was wondering that too 🤔 brushed metal turning to brown enamel/mystery coating?!

 

I would have been pleased with just a barrel and cap change. Keep the same furniture and vary the rest with different colors like (red) burgundy, dark (green) or this simply brown one. I'd even stomach slightly less than Bauhaus prices.

I never thought of it that way, but it makes sense. The 2000 is my favorite pen ever so I guess I was hoping for something other than a dark, conservative color. I just really hope another finish joins the regular 2000 lineup.

I'd like to see some tinted Vista colors (like a Coke bottle green - from when pop bottles were glass), with transparent plastic feed. Or even fluorescent clear colors.

I was thinking more that he wants non-clear colors of "demonstrator" style barrels to look at some of the Noodler's pens.

Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick) had an acrylic guitar (fluorescent green) I liked, I don't remember seeing that until late 90's or 2000's.

 

I have a no name demonstrator fountain pen with a transparent feed, I think the Vistas would be better with that vs. black (probably more expensive and fragile).

They came out at the end of the 80's. Too expensive for guitars back then, I guess. 😉

Lets hope the brown 2000 is an edition that is readily available and not scarce like the Bauhaus

Personally, I'd like to agitate for a return of French Blue (especially with the red clip).  I see the prices those are going for on eBay and go "Seriously?  It's JUST a Safari....  I'm NOT paying that kind of money for a Safari no matter how nice the color combo is!"  Heck, the Dark Lilac (which someone on here had been poking Lamy to come out with a purple one for years before that color was released) was the price of a regular Safari.  And was drop-dead gorgeous.  I also got one of last year's Violet ones, which is just enough different from the Dark Lilac.  

Guess Safari doesn't want my money.

I have been asking, on FPN, for years about a Lamy in purple, even before the Lamy forum was created. Thanks mods for the Lamy forum. I think, it helped that Lamy decided to make more fountain pen lines.

 

I understood that Lamy was reluctant after the bad fakes in Barney's color surfaced then there were many more people coming, on the forum asking if their Safari was the real deal, it happen with many of the early limited editions.

 

For years, we had to recognize the differences then answer, with the best of our knowledge.

 

I believe that great craftsmanship cannot truly be replicated. The cheap copiers didn't mess with the Umbra and Griso, which are Matte. 

 

I was so delighted when Lamy made the Dark Lilac and the Violet Safari.

I am new to this site as I love fountain pens, I have about 100 (ridiculous, I know, but I use just about all of them).  In particular, Lamy because of their non-round structure.   Round pens just roll.   As for colour, it is as personal as the underpants you wear.  Absolutely no one can tell you what you like or don't like.   Personally, I won't have anything red or anything from that side of the spectrum.   But, that is just me.   I really believe the best option would be to create a new colour every year.   I have yet to see a bright, acid yellow Al Star.  There was the Safari from a lot of years ago, it is gorgeous and stands out amongst other pens.   There is the dull, muddy colour of mango or the old Safari yellow, but nothing bright, sharp and clean-looking.   The Safari Petrol was a good close to a blue, but to my eye, it is dirty green.   If that were in a blue version, I would love it.   Any of the blues to me is a good choice, or the pinks.   Whatever our personal preference, it would be lovely to not do a rehash of any colour.   The black redo was very disappointing.  I am guessing the prediction of the orange and green will be right, unfortunately.   I really think that a very new colour every year for the Al Star and the Safari would be really good.   As this is my first post, I would like to thank all of the posters for your comments, it has been keeping me entertained for a very long time.   Happy Writing, L

I sometimes wonder how many people walk around with a colors visual impairments they don't know of.

Regardless of the "trueness" of the colors that ones sees, what color you like is what you like and what color you dislike is what you dislike.
It does not matter if what I see as "green" the rest of the world sees as "blue", I still like what I like.
