Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Pilot Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo

This is review #49 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: Easy cleaning - just a few flushes with plain water.

And here is a screen of the final result, for those not interested in the video:

Ink,

:D

I can't decide if I only like this ink, or if I really like this ink! I'll have to try it in some more pens before I decide. I kinda suspect I'll forgo purchase, though, just because I already have so many inks I'll never use them all up.

Yeah, but there's a chance that on another paper or in another pen it will wow me. So not good enough to buy for this pen, but perhaps for another. We'll see.

Ooooh. Delightful shading! On the samples list it goes.

:) Yep, it's a good one.

Thanks for another fun review. I have Tsuki-yo, and it's in frequent use.

You're welcome!

I had such a hard time with this ink. Not with its performance but with its color. I ONLY like it when it's very saturated from a juicy pen, because then it's deeper and a bit more teal, a kind of a marine blue. But otherwise it looks like a medium dirty blue that I just don't like at all. Ended up passing this ink on.

 Well, there you go - you liked what I disliked! I'm thinking the medium dirty blue is what I want. The question is whether I can find a pen that gives me that, but in a wider line than this EF. Maybe my Lamy Al-Star, possibly my Sailor Pro Gear Slim... We'll see.

I think I'm in the minority -- lots of people love this ink. This just goes to show everyone has their different preferences :D

Hooray for different preferences!! Life would be dull, and no one would ever discover anything new if we all liked the same thing.

Anywho, you've explained why my memory said the ink was too dark and teal - I must have been using it in a wet pen - it was early on in my return to FPs, I didn't have a lot of experience with inks, and I was hunting for a particular shade (which doesn't exist), so I'm sure I didn't give it a fair shake - which is why I got a second sample. :)

If you used it in a wet pen on Tomoe River, it's a rich dark line leaning more dirty teal and even has some red-magenta sheen outline. It's a pretty striking look that way. My favorite is how it looks on Cream TR52:

(First "Gulf Blue" should say "Cobalt Blue")

Thanks for the added photo. I tried looking at the Tsuki-yo line (which looks quite different in the full-size photo vs. the in-line shrunk-to-fit version), but my eyes kept insisting on moving to the Sailor Blue-Black line! Holy shading, Batman!

Sailor Jentle / Basic Blue-Black is my most favorite Blue-Black. It's pretty much perfect. Good water resistance, excellent flow and lubrication, beautiful hues. Looks amazing in a broad nib on TR52--lots of shading and sheen. It's also a nice subdued ink for watercolor sketches.

One of my liked colors for the fact that its simply fun and does not ruins the professional feel of work too much, it was a contender against shin-kai in which bottle I will have....spoiler alert I have shin-kai....liked the blue-black more....still great ink in general, will get it sometime after current ink is finished.

Thanks for the review it was great.

My eyes go to the Deep Sea Green.... Lovely colour..... It reminds me of Noodler's General of the Armies.....

Deep Sea Green is one of my top favorites too. It's a very complex ink, looks different depending on pen and paper. Great color complexity. Poor lubrication and quite translucent, but using smoother nibs and higher flow pen, and you get some great shading.

Yes, that'll be the contest for me too - Shin-kai vs. Tsuki-yo. Could be years before I decide (which is a sort of decision itself - neither is enough to make me rush to an online store and "buy now").

Um, didn't anyone tell you you're not supposed to tempt blue-black addicts? :D

Not specifically related to this review, but...

TL, DR: I deleted all prior votes from my poll, so please vote again if you have a preference!

Long version:

Someone or something messed up the "Summary" view of responses for my google form. It used to show all the inks in alphabetical order, with deleted (already reviewed) inks at the bottom. Tonight, it was showing the items sorted by vote count, descending, with deleted and current options all mixed together. For me to find the highest-ranked, but not yet done, ink with the sort like that would have taken forever. I could not find any way for me to change the sort and get things back to how they were (and I'm a former programmer, so I think if there was a way, I would have found it). So, I deleted all the votes. Hopefully this will cause the sort to go back to how it was - testing indicates it will, so I suspect google have some rule that changes the sort automatically after a certain number of votes.

Apologies to anyone who feels their vote was lost - please place it again!
