The "J" was Esterbrook's sleek and suave, classic pocket pen that appealed to the practicality of the times. It was a perfect pen for both men and women, and we think it still is today.
EsterbrookJRCarmine04.jpg
This revival of this 1940's and 50's pen has all of the hallmarks of its predecessor, with a few new bells and whistles.
EsterbrookJRCarmine06.jpg
The new "JR" is stylish and refined without being too fancy. It's meant to match your style, as well as it graces your hand. With a refined design, that isn't fussy, it is compact in size, so you can always have one on hand in your jeans or shirt pocket, purse, or briefcase. It can be with you on the go, wherever you go.
EsterbrookJRCarmine05.jpg
Mirroring the original "J"'s production, this new version is offered in three colors: Tuxedo Black, Carmine Red and Capri Blue. Tuxedo and Carmine shine bright in Silver trim and Capri gleams in Gold.
EsterbrookJRCarmine07.jpg
And since we hope you'll hold onto it forever, both the German JoWo nib and the top of the pen have been engraved with the Esterbrook Eternity symbol.
It's Esterbrook's new take on the small, but mighty pocket pen.

Jesus that thing is overpriced. And it doesn't even have the compatibility with the vintage estie nib units.

What is the point of this brand's revival, honestly. Selling itself on vintage appeal but not taking the very minor steps required to make it have real vintage appeal (the huge supply of fun, varied, and cheap estie nibs out there)

Honestly see basically zero reason to get one of these over an Opus.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

The blue and black colorways look pretty sharp.

But yeah, it strikes me as expensive-- especially when you can get a piston-filling Pelikan m200 for less. Still, the early reviews are coming in pretty favorable.

I'm not clear what makes it a pocket pen. It looks pretty full-size to me, and the blurbs about it, both here and on PenHero's site, are irritatingly free of measurements.

I found on another site that the capped length is 127 mm or 5 inches. Is this what counts as "pocket" in these days of giant pens?

Maybe it’s a bad photo but the cap looks way too thick compared to the barrel.

Actually you can do MUCH better than that. Check out endlesspens.com. I think you can score one for about $120+ with free shipping. And you probably won't have to pay sales tax, at least here in Massachusetts. (They automatically ad it on when you use PP on EB;-(((

I think at this point I have maybe 17 Esterbrook J series pens. The most I ever paid for one was $35 US for a black LJ with a 9284 Signature stub.

Maybe this one comes in a very nice box, though.... ;)

Hi all,

It's a really nice looking pen, but I agree with everyone else; the price is too high - just like the price on the 300 Phaeton.

Yeah, especially when a near pristine vintage EB can be had for much less. I am curious to see what the sales numbers for this company are.

If a company charges that much for CC pen, then I at least expect a 14k gold nib.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
