Platinum Preppy Sign Marker + Permanent Marker Ink?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried refilling the Preppy sign marker with permanent marker ink (e.g. Pentel, Pilot, Artline, etc.)? I was thinking it would be a nice alternative to Sharpies since it's refillable and it has the slip and seal cap. I just ordered one and can't experiment yet, so I thought I'd ask in case anyone has tried it.

That's a great idea. The Sharpies have an unpleasant odor and that's a lot of plastic to produce just to toss it away. I've been hoping for a more sensible alternative. Please let us know how the Preppy works!

For those interested...this is a NO. Ink dries up in the marker tip and inside the cartridge. Luckily it was just a Preppy. Lol. 😅

This should be a good experiment/challenge for Nathan Tardiff...create a permanent marker ink that will work with Platinum Preppys or Pilot Petits (or other felt tip refillable pens). 😆

Hi! I signed up to Fountain Pen Network just to reply to this....however they went offline and it's been half a year until I could finally reply. :) These suggestions are for use on paper...you may be looking for a multi-surface ink more like a Sharpie.

I have had good luck filling a Preppy Marker with Marvy Uchida Liquimark Ink. This is an ink intended for clothing art, and is waterproof once dry. It is generally sold in very small tubes paired with a waterbrush, intended to dilute for some type of watercolor effect. I use it undiluted in my marker for postcard art and drawings which I paint over later.

Also, DeAtramentis document black is waterproof on paper once dry. I have had it in another Preppy Marker for the same use as above. Both markers are doing fine after >8 months!
