Old Glass-Nibbed Parts

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm having a clear-out and found these two oddities. Excuse the photo -- the lighting and my phone camera aren't getting on well today!

As far as I know they're both glass-nibbed pens, in need of restoration if not actual reincarnation (and in one case even the glass nib is missing).

The marbled one has an imprint in script lettering saying something like 'Giober t' or 'Giobert' -- hard to make out with my eyesight.

The greenish one might be in hard rubber and has the imprint "TACHOGRAPH".

I don't have a clue who might be interested in these, but any advice or information would be very gratefully received!

Thanks in advance,

David

OH MY WORD ....!!!

I *adore* the red-veined green/grey marbled one. I am such a pushover for that color combination.

I have seen glass-nibbed fountain pens on eBay of late and I'm trying to be good to my wallet and not buy one... but it's so very hard to be good when I want a glass-nibbed FP so badly. LOL!

I hope you find a way to repair/rehabilitate yours, organgos. You've got a beauty of a pen, there.

As to the black nib-less pen, I love how slender it is and the larger cap makes it look very quirky and endearingly retro. It may be possible to find a glass nib/feed assembly for it online. Have you thought about looking for one?

Does anyone here have any suggestions for repairing this pen? It would be a shame to have it go into the waste stream. The body looks to be in great shape.

(If nothing else, you can use it to hold toothpicks or other slender tools to add to your EDC. I can't think of how many times a small-gauge crochet hook would have saved the day, yet didn't have one on me. The black pen barrel/cap would have been the PERFECT EDC holder for one.)

Glad you like them! I strongly object to putting *anything* in the waste stream that can be kept out of it!

My hope is to get these to someone who would have them restored and use them. I'd follow your suggesting about using them (at least) for dip tests, but I already have a glass dip pen so no point doubling up!

With a name like that, I'd be thinking it takes something like a technical pen nib cf: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/30724-rotring-tintenkuli-stylographs/

That's an interesting thread, thanks. The section bore is about right for a glass nib which is why I'd grouped them together. You could well be right however.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
