One can report counterfeit merchandise on the Bay, but the policy is intended to address trademarked or name brand merchandise. I am not sure they would be able to determine whether or not the pen was a genuine article or was made to deceive. Is it truly fake, if there are genuine Parker parts?

That is a great question. Giants of the hobby once had a really interesting discussion on that matter on a once interesting fountain pen forum: check bottom of page 1 and top of page 2 of this thread.

According to this thread there is some logic in installing a Newhaven nib but what about the 44 imprint?

If I explain what is wrong with the pens this individual is making he/she will be able to fool even more people than now. We do believe the seller reads here.

 

If you think the pen is original Parker purchase it. That the second perfect Mandarin Duofold is selling now should speak volumes.

Thank you, but I was the one that started this thread to warn the community for that fake Mandarin Duofold so I will not be the buyer, obviously.

I started a similar thread on identical fake Duofolds back in 2012 on another fountain pen forum.

So I guess that people that really want to know do have enough info to recognize the fake.

I'd say that demo is more obvious of a fake compared to the Mandarin. The color is just off, and originality can't be reproduced.

I’d be willing to bet you can’t find a first year Mustard with any kind of filler for sale no matter when it was made.

color is pretty good on my monitor other things are wrong and I’ll wager it isn’t celluloid

Anyone know where I can buy a Mustard DJ 51 with a first year aluminum filler that was made in 1946??

I am going to confess I am not a 51 hardcore researcher. I collect more Vacumatics. It is my understanding that all alum Speedline fillers are interchangeable. That a Vac Speedline Filler will fit into a 51. Other than not having a diamond imprint on the brass cap of the filler, a 51 can have a replacement Speedline Filler from any year. A double-jewel 51 with a Speedline Filler doesn’t mean it is a first year model, correct?

You are certainly correct, I just found it highly suspicious as I’ve been collecting 51’s for years and rarely see a DJ with a speedline in the wild much less a mustard one. In fact, I don’t know that I have EVER seen a mustard one. But that’s just me.....

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
