It is made by a liscencee of Hugo Boss. From that companies website:

"Plastoria started out as an industrial leather manufacturer. Over the years, Plastoria has expanded its expertise to many other types of fashion accessories (from leather goods to writing instruments, to timepieces). In order to offer more competitive products in a complex environment, we manufacture products with various origins. Once again, we make the difference in the organisation of our production process and control of our factories (in order to supervise the quality and whether social and environmental law is respected). For instance, when manufacturing a pen, the body of the pen will be machined in our Taiwan factory (well known for its precision), and the refills come from Germany, where we work with the best subcontractors in ink and mechanical systems. The final assembly and quality control is done in our factory in Brussels. Thanks to our flow management and our strict logistic-line control (quality, rapidity, price) we are able to bring together the best that every country has to offer."

In reading the Annual Report of Hugo Boss it became very apparent that while they are very involved with their fashion design and production they are a bit less involved with their liscencee products which are not the major source of Hugo Boss revenue. It appears that they negotiate contracts and then take a fairly hands off approach with their licensees. Plastoria appears to take great pride in both designing and producing products under the Hugo Boss name, even going the extra distance of assembling the pens themselves in Brussels.

I wonder who designed the pen. This seems to be a nice German(?) designed, Chinese made, Belgian assembled pen... :)

That is a nice looking pen, very smart so would suit many different kinds of environments. Wonder how much it goes for...

The one Hugo Boss FP that I still have (also in gun metal finish) has a very smooth and surprisingly soft steel nib. You could almost get away with calling it flexy. Almost.

They are generally quite well made, though some designs are not well thought through. For instance, the clip on mine has a rather sophisticated spring loading mechanism, which unfortunately makes it impossible to get a properly sealed cap. The nib is guaranteed to dry up in a matter of hours.

So I was in Taiwan last year and was surprised by both the thriving pen community as well as a healthy small manufacturing business that supports this community of people. When I was chatting with Mr. Lee of Tylee.com, he talked about the presence of these small factories and how they are able to make pens that are unique and for the local and global markets.

You'd be surprise to know how many of the pens we use are from Taiwan. While we all are very knowledgeable of higher end Asian pens that are made in Japan, quite a few of the lower end pens are manufactured in Taiwan by OEM manufacturers. These guys have been around for a while and their sons and daughters are the ones that are now taking steps to venture out to become brands of their own.
