New Pilot Capless Ls

MSA

Recommended Posts

So even though the new Capless will be introduced on May 20, 2020 (US), a bunch of them are available from $310 to $440 from sellers in Japan.

Is this truly a limited addition or this is the way all Capless/vanishing points are going to look in the future.

Does the new edition deserve a price that is twice as much as the current model ?

What do the wise people on this forum think ? Is the price going to come down in the coming weeks or years ? I have also read somewhere on this forum that there is an issue with international mail from Japan.

As a long time user of Capless/Vanishing points....unfortunately I will eventually get it (Not a matter of if...but when hopefully soon).

I have no idea but inferring from the pictures, I don't see a number on the pen, which Pilot uses for their LE models in the US, so maybe this is an updated style or a new model entirely. I'm not sure if I like it or not yet.

Comprehensive thread with video: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/350538-pilot-capless-ls/

per original post from @liubrian

Luxury Silent (LS) - new line - girthier and knock to deploy, twist to close

I recall reading somewhere coming stateside end of year or probably next given current circumstances

As for price, 35,000 yen (excluding tax) is quote above and i think PenSachi sells them for $310ish

Nice pen and the someday maybe list

It is not a limited edition since it was added as a regular catalog item for 2020 by Pilot Japan. I was told that they are not bringing it to the US at all. That may change but for now I don't expect them to release it here. I tried one in person last month and I was a bit let down by the mechanism. I didn't find it to be worth the premium price. I may end up getting one for my collection if the price is right but I will not rush to do so.

Pretty color on the one in the eBay link. But the end cap seems really, well, odd looking (is that part of the twist mechanism?).

As to to the price, regular VPs are too large and heavy for me to begin with (as opposed to Decimos, which are much better in that regard) -- so, no, I don't think the extra price is remotely justified. Especially since I spotted a used Raden finish VP in an antiques and collecibles store for roughly 1/2 the price of a new Raden). I didn't buy it for the same reason that the first one I bought (black, about a 1/3 the price of a new one) -- in the same booth, went to my husband: too awkward a size for me.

Personally I think the pricing of the new Capless LS does not make sense at all remembering the Curidas was launched with a price below the original Capless at roughly the same period.

Who are they actually targeting with these LS? I would rather get a standard VP and hear that click rather than experiencing the "luxurious" silent feeling of retracting the nib of the LS.

I bought one as a novelty. I wouldn't buy it except for the purpose of wanting all the different models of the hapless pens. Personally if you want to get a Capless from Japan I would suggest the Fermo. Its quite a fun pen.
