An Ink That Doesn't Bleed Through Harland Checks

Noodler's 54th Massachusetts seems to be doing better on the Harland checks than some inks I've tried. I had to write a bunch of checks this morning, paying bills, and wasn't seeing nearly as much spread as other inks, like Sailor Souboku or Nooder's Heart of Darkness.

Pen being used is the ebonite Konrad; I'm not flexing the nib at all, and it seems to be okay (albeit a little drier than I remember from the last time I used the pen, which was a few days ago).

I've seen posts in this thread about Scabiosa and indeed it's amazing how that ink performs even on cheap papers. However... in a normal nib it shows (in my view) too pale. I also found it was rather dry - the difference in my Ahab between Scabiosa that seemed reluctant to come out and, say, Earl Grey that flowed beautifully, was really striking.

I tried Scabiosa in my Kaweco sport given that I used to carry it in my pocket and so would be more likely to use it on the go on cheap paper, but though it has a Medium nib it was just way too pale (and dusty colours are worse when pale, I think).

A relative has tried Scabiosa in a Boston Safety and had flow issues. Now, I've disassembled it for him, cleaned and tried with another ink and it was very nice - maybe I should have given Scabiosa another try.

So, bottom line: I'd love Scabiosa to work for me but it seems I would need a very wet nib on the broad side.
