> Ghosting is different from Show Through

Really, I didn't know. What is the difference? Thank you.

KWZI Blue #4 and Violet #4 are ghosters. I will try and post up some images. Parts of the ink seep through the other side and it happens on all papers. For example, on the two early KWZI inks I mentioned, ou don't see the Blue or Violet on the reverse, but instead see a yellow or green.

Here is another explanation:

Ghosting is when some component of the ink seeps through the other side over time - it is not the same as bleed through - it happens after the ink is dry and it is only part of the ink. Ghosting was a problem in the early days of the first KWZI blues. (Even with Ghosting, KWZI Blue #4 is one of my favorite colors).

I don't have my ink journals here, but I can probably find a page where my old printer did it.

Show though (you can see the entire color on the reverse side of the paper and you might be able to read the images in reverse.) and bleed through and it is very paper dependent.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Here is the back of the page and this particular ink ghosted.

BTW, the part of the ink that did ghost showed up under UV light.

OK, I see, thank you. In the beginning, when I complained to some people about that I don't want to be able to read from the backside of a page, I was returned that this is called ghosting. I took over that name but now I see that I would better use "show through".

Meanwhile, I have loaded another pen [nib (size) M] with Octopus Fluids Royal Blue - see a comparison of Octopus inks here.

This one is much better than Pelikan Royal Blue but it also shows signs of bleeding through, only some dots, so it is still acceptable - on the Kokuyo Campus Notebook ノ-108S5.

No problems to use both sides.

My evaluation scheme:

Level 5: bleed through

Level 4: no/light bleed through, heavy show through

Level 3: no/very light bleed through, light show through

Level 2: no/point bleed through, very light show through

Level 1: no bleed through, no show through

The investigated combination Jinhao X450, original nib, Octopus Fluids Royal Blue, Kokuyo ノ-108S5 is a lower Level 2 combination, heading towards Level 3.

"Welcome, you are now a located member in the pen-ink-paper hell."

Level 4-5 is for me a kind of self-punishment.

@Amberlea, thanks a lot for this very clear explanation.

@mke:

I'd suggest to add "ghosting" as Level 3a) to your list.

While i consider ghosting only a light version of bleed through, only parts of the ink contributing here makes a difference in aesthetical terms.

btw., for me the self punishment starts at level 3 already :-)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
